• Judy Wagner of Glen Ellyn was surprised with the 2008 West Suburban Philanthropic Network Distinguished Award for her work since 2000 at the College of DuPage library's Philanthropy Center.
The center is a partnership between the Donors Forum and COD's effort to meet the information needs of the myriad of nonprofit organizations in the Western suburbs.
Wagner said because of the five previous outstanding winners of this award, she is humbled to be named with them. She will receive the award May 21 at the network's award luncheon at the Abbington in Glen Ellyn.
• Dorothy Troyer was recognized as the Deicke Center's Volunteer of the Year by the Wheaton Lions Club.
She was honored for her monthly column in the Lions' newsletter and her service as the club's program director.
The Deicke Center of Wheaton offers a comprehensive program for all ages with low-vision impairments.
• Lisa Virgilio, daughter of Ted and Sue Virgilio of Wheaton, was named the 2008 scholarship recipient of the Wheaton chapter of Infant Welfare Society of Chicago. A senior at Wheaton Warrenville South High School, she was selected for her volunteer work in the community.
• Tyler Schroeder-Zelek, a fifth-grader at St. Philip the Apostle School in Addison, took fifth place in the 2008 Illinois Arbor Day Poster Contest. The theme was "Trees Are Terrific…Inside and Out!" The winning students and schools receive awards and certificates.
