Neuqua Valley sweeps Waubonsie
The Neuqua Valley Wildcats ran their Upstate Eight Conference win streak to nine on Saturday, beating Waubonsie Valley 11-8 and 12-1 to finish off a three-game series baseball sweep in Aurora.
Chris Kruppe had a single, double and triple and Brian McNabb 2 doubles for Neuqua Valley (16-3, 12-1) in the opener. McNabb had a double and 3 runs batted in, Geoff Rowan 2 doubles and Jason David a solo homer in the second game.
Naperville Central 2-10, Wheaton North 1-4: Marc Mantucca out-dueled Travis Otto in the opener, and the Redhawks went on to sweep a doubleheader from the DuPage Valley Conference-leading Falcons in Naperville.
Mantucca (3-1) struck out five in a complete-game six-hitter. Naperville Central (12-6, 7-4 DVC) erupted for 5 runs in the second inning of the second game. Mike Oles, Anthony Lopez and Eric Demtschenko all had run-scoring hits in the inning. Otto was 3-for-3 with a double and home run for the Falcons (13-6, 8-3).
Naperville North 5-4, Glenbard North 4-17: The Huskies defeated the Panthers in the first game of a DVC doubleheader, earning coach Carl Hunckler his 400th career win. Hunckler has been head coach at Naperville North for 19 years, and for nine years prior to that at Joliet Catholic. Derek Locascio homered and drove in 3 runs for the Huskies. Justin Wahrman and Alex Mullendore each had 3 hits in the second game for Glenbard North (3-10, 3-8).
West Chicago 7-12, Glenbard East 2-1: James Eckler went 3-for-3 with a homer and 4 RBI in the second game as West Chicago (6-8, 4-6 DVC) swept the league doubleheader. Dave Sampiller cracked a 3-run homer in the first inning of the first game and Trevor Bodie (8-1) struck out eight.
WW South 7-19, West Aurora 3-18:ŒWinning pitcher Nick Egan and Nick Brown homered in Game 1 for the Tigers (8-8, 7-3), who earned the DuPage Valley Conference sweep in Game 2. Dustin Quattrocchi, Mike Olp, Matt Glawe and Mike Sloboda combined for 8 hits and 9 RBI. Robert Grabeck picked up the win.
Downers Grove South 9-8, Willowbrook 2-6: Sean Enright had a homer, triple and 3 RBI in the second game of a doubleheader sweep. Mike Wido homered twice in the first game for Downers Grove South (19-4, 10-1 West Suburban Gold Conference).
Downers Grove North 13, Glenbard West 2: Eric Jagielo went 3-for-3 with a homer and 3 RBI for the Trojans (13-5, 8-2 West Suburban Silver Conference).
Hinsdale South 7, Morton 5: The Hornets (12-8, 9-2 West Suburban Gold) scored 2 runs in the top of the ninth to edge Morton.
Glenbard South 10, Lemont 3:ŒWinning pitcher Joe Ramirez (1-1) went 4-for-4 with 3 RBI for the Raiders (12-8) in their nonconference win. Joe Biagini doubled twice and drove in 2 runs.
Driscoll 15, St. Edward 8:ŒAdam Davis and Mark Doroba homered twice and combined for 8 RBI as the Highlanders (13-4, 5-1) won in the Suburban Catholic Conference. Corey Eisenmann improved to 4-1 on the mound.
Wheaton Academy 13-15, Timothy Christian 1-2:ŒJohn Lace went 7-for-8 with 2 doubles, a home run and 7 RBI for the Warriors (8-6, 6-2) in their Private School League sweep. Lace (3-1) and Bretty Boyer (1-0) were the winning pitchers.
