Wrap: Stein steps up as Lakes repeats at Grant

Lakes' boys track and field team kept scoring and, as a result, scored another championship in the Grant invitational.

The Eagles scored in every event en route to 156 points to edge the host Bulldogs and successfully defend their championship on a rainy Thursday in Fox Lake.

Andrew Stein led the way for Lakes, which dominated the field events. Stein won the long jump and triple jump, while teammate Josh Beckman captured first place in the pole vault.

The Eagles doubled up points in each field event thanks also to the performances of Forest Clements, Eddie Xiao, Bill Brinser, Erik Stone, Marcell Kirkmanbey and Chris Boehm.

On the track, Lakes displayed its depth again. The senior point scorers included Ethan Hahn, Brian Fuller, Brian Baldino, Greg Prendergast, Kyle Gallagher and Stein.

The Eagles compete Saturday in the longest-running track meet in the state when they participate in the Palatine Relays.

"The entire coaching staff is very proud of the work the seniors have put forward," Lakes coach Kurt Rowells said, "and it is starting to pay off in a big way."
