Scholarships
These scholarships are available for students in DuPage County.
Rotary: The Rotary Club of Central DuPage AM will accept applications for its 2008-09 Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarship.
Applicants must be undergraduate and graduate students whose home base is Wheaton, Glen Ellyn, Winfield, Carol Steam or Warrenville as well as students at Wheaton College, College of DuPage, Illinois Benedictine and IIT with an interest in study abroad.
The scholarships are designed to further international understanding and goodwill and offer 150 countries where Rotary clubs are located. Some 1,300 scholarships will be available from clubs worldwide.
The scholarships are for one year and provide funding for round-trip transportation, tuition and fees, room, board, some educational supplies and language training if needed. Awards range from $14,000 to $26,000.

Carol Stream: The Carol Stream Chamber of Commerce has formed a Dollars for Scholars Chapter to offer post-secondary scholarships to eligible Carol Stream residents. The deadline is Friday.
Applicants must complete the application; plan to attend a four-year college or university, a two-year community college or a professional trade school.
Applicants may not be a child of a member of the chamber's Dollar for Scholars board of directors. Applications are at www.carolstreamchamber.com and must be submitted to Glenbard North High School, Attn: Ms. Debra Cartwright, 990 Kuhn Road, Carol Stream, IL 60188.

Wheaton Lions: The Wheaton Lions Charities is seeking scholarship candidates with a hearing or vision impairment, or type II diabetes, who are residents within the boundaries of Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200 and have financial need.
Candidates should be a high school seniors with plans to attend college or technical school; also could be previous graduates with plans on changing career with financial need and impairment.

Architects: The American Institute of Architects is offering three scholarships of $3,000 each with a deadline of May 1. Applicants must be U.S. citizens enrolled in one of 27 accredited architecture programs in the National Architectural Accrediting Board's East Central or West Central regions. They must be residents of Cook, DuPage, Kane and Kendall counties, not within Chicago's city limits and south of I-55 or east of the Edens Expressway. Past recipients are not eligible. Winfield: The Winfield Chamber of Commerce and Winfield Lions Club have formed a Dollars for Scholars Chapter for graduating seniors and undergraduate students of the Winfield area. The scholarship honors the memory of Walter Schauer, a member of the Winfield Lions and an organizing director of the Winfield Chamber and past president.
A high school or college transcript and ACT scores must be sent by Friday to the Winfield Chamber, P.O. Box 209, Winfield, IL 60190.
The application deadline is 5 p.m. May 2.
This year, $16,000 will be awarded as $2,000 to eight students. Applicants must complete the application, provide financial data and complete the narrative. A copy of the college acceptance letter must be included. Application criteria include GPA, ACT scores, community service, work experience, extracurricular activities and financial need. Applications are available at www.winfieldchamber.biz.
Sons of Italy: The Illinois Sons of Italy Foundation is offering graduating seniors of full or partial Italian ancestry a chance to compete for $1,000 college scholarships. Deadline for application is July 1 with winners notified by Aug. 31.
Scholarships will be awarded to qualified students graduating from a recognized public or private high school in Illinois. Applicants will be selected on the basis of financial need, scholastic achievements, activities in high school, a personal essay and faculty recommendation. Applications are available by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Illinois Sons of Italy Foundation, 9447 West 144th Place, Orland Park, IL 60462.
