Wrap: Carmel (8-0) explodes for 11 runs in big win
Believe it or not, this game was tied after five innings.
But the Carmel Corsairs (8-0) broke up that tie with a sledgehammer, scoring 11 runs in the top of the sixth inning en route to a 12-3 triumph over Marian Catholic in an East Suburban Catholic Conference contest.
Joe Pudlo, Kevin Hendricks, Bobby Lyne, Jordan Sivertsen and Brian Siedlecki all had 2 hits apiece for Carmel.
Sivertsen had a home run, while Pudlo and Siedlecki had doubles. Pudlo finished with 4 RBI.
Winning pitcher Jeff Moree rolled up 7 strikeouts in 6 innings. He allowed 1 walk.
Mundelein 6, Libertyville 2: Mundelein upped its record to 12-1 by rallying from a 2-0 first-inning deficit to earn a 6-2 victory in the North Suburban Lake.
Pitcher Justin Piasecki, transitioning seamlessly into the rotation after missing the early weeks of the season with an injury, rolled up 11 strikeouts.
On offense, Mundelein got doubles from Jack Walliser, Colton Tortorello and Kevin Barber.
For Libertyville, Chase Guarnaccio had 2 hits, including a double. Joey Aiello drilled a home run.
Lakes 13, North Chicago 2: Lakes won its fourth game in a row and moved to 2-0 in North Suburban Prairie Division play with the victory.
The Eagles (6-5) got a 3-for-4 effort from Eric Lopez, who had a double and 3 RBI.
Zach Percival went 2-for-2 with a triple, double and 2 RBI, and Trey Williams drove in 3 runs.
Lakes pitcher Randy Ratajczyk struck out eight en route to his second win.
Antioch 7, Round Lake 4: Pitcher Jim Fracek rolled up 11 strikeouts en route to his first win of the season on the mound.
Fracek pitched a complete game, allowing 4 walks.
The Sequoits (3-5, 3-0 NSC Prairie) got 2 hits apiece from Logan Kent and Dillon Healy.
Meadows 6, Stevenson 4: Pat Conlin minimized the damage to 2 runs in a bases-loaded, no-out situation in the sixth for Meadows (4-4) to save the nonconference win for Ted Metzger.
Kevin Serna was 2-for-4 with an RBI as the Mustangs went ahead to stay with a 4-run second.
Softball
Mundelein 3, Libertyville 2: Mundelein (4-7) scored 3 runs in the top of the first inning and was able to hang on for an NSC Lake win after Libertyville rallied with a 2-run fourth inning.
Winning pitcher Kim Krause had 2 strikeouts and helped herself at the plate by driving in a run on a double.
Jordan Lundsten also had a double. She went 2-for-3 and drove in what proved to be the winning run.
Wauconda 4, Grant 3: With the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh, Amanda Pausa drove in a run to help Wauconda pull out the North Suburban Prairie Division victory.
Pausa went 3-for-4 with a double. Wauconda got 2 hits apiece from Cara Nance and Stephanie Olson. Olson had 2 triples.
Kayla Stos got the win on the mound. She went the distance and gave up 1 walk.
For Grant, Heather Ruetsche had a triple.
Warren 5, Lake Forest 3: Warren upped its record to 4-1 in the North Suburban Lake Division with the victory.
Alex Booker and Sarah Clauser each had 2 hits for the Blue Devils (8-6).
On the mound, Jessica Capko got the win and Sam Berrios earned a save.
Lake Zurich 6, Zion-Benton 3: Katie Buczynski hurt Zion-Benton at the plate and from the mound. She drove in 3 runs with her second homer of the season. She struck out eight and gave up no walks in 5¿ innings.
The Bears got 2 doubles from Ella Aslan and a double from Chrissie Wichmann.
Lakes 16, North Chicago 1: Nora Kenney, Hannah Karstedt and Maddie Nelson each had 2 hits to lead the Eagles (6-6) in the NSC Prairie. Karstedt pitched a 1-hitter.
Stevenson 9, Glenbrook S. 3: Thanks to a pair of triples that each drove in 2 runs, Stevenson racked up 6 runs in the sixth inning to break open a tight nonconference game.
The Patriots (8-5) got the triples from Amanda Jaegers and Allison Micucci.
On the mound, pitcher Jordan Willis got the win. She pitched 5 innings and rolled up 6 strikeouts.
Huntley 4, Grayslake N. 1: The Knights had the bases loaded in the seventh inning but stranded everyone and Huntley escaped with a victory.
Pitcher Carly Borders went 3 innings for the Knights and had 2 strikeouts. She also went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Jacquelyn Damore also went 2-for-3 for Grayslake North (4-5).
Antioch 19, Round Lake 1: Ashley Mysliwiec had a big day in a big win for the Sequoits. Mysliwiec went 3-for-4 with a triple and a home run. Allie Anttila chipped in 2 hits and 3 RBI. Pitcher Jamie Villalobos rolled up 4 strikeouts for Antioch (6-3).

Johnsburg 4, Grayslake N. 2: Johnsburg scored 2 quick goals and never looked back. Freshman Chole Basa scored both goals for the Knights (1-7).
Volleyball
Carmel d. Joliet Catholic: The Corsairs (9-6) swept Joliet Catholic 25-18, 25-19 in the East Suburban Catholic. Josh Garwood tallied 6 kills and 6 aces to lead the way for the Corsairs, who got 9 assists from Mike Geske and 6 assists from Mike Dietrich.
Deerfield d. Vernon Hills: Despite opening with a victory in the first game, Vernon Hills fell to 12-6 with the nonconference loss by scores of 23-25, 25-21, 25-22. Keegan Harris topped Vernon Hills with 9 kills, while Ernie Choi added 7 and both Herman Lynn and Dave Siegel each had 6 kills. Lynn added 4 blocks while Jeff Achler led the way with 11 digs. Setter Sam Lee had 30 assists for the Cougars.
Tennis
Lakes d. Grant: In North Suburban Prairie Division action, Lakes got a 4-1 victory. Lakes' No. 1 singles player, Andrew Yopp, rallied after a first-set loss to beat Alex Marginean of Grant, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. Reclaiming his serve, which was off in the first set, was key for Yopp. Charlie Scupham and Justin Shea teamed up to win the No. 1 doubles match for Lakes. They dominated Joe Louis and Josh White, 6-0, 6-3.
Lake Zurich d. Mundelein: Lake Zurich swept three doubles matches to edge Mundelein 3-2 in the NSC Lake. The Bears' No. 1 doubles team of Eric Wolf and Tyler Miller led the way. Mundelein got two victories in singles play. Tyler Patner won the No. 1 singles match over Lake Zurich's Garrett Johnson, 6-0, 6-0.
Vernon Hills d. North Chicago: Not only did the Cougars win every match in their 5-0 win, they swept them all in the NSC Prairie. The Cougars were led by Sam Rong at No. 1 singles and Josh Brickman and Riaz Hoveydai at No. 1 singles.
Stevenson d. Libertyville: Like Vernon Hills, Stevenson also swept every match in a 5-0 NSC Lake victory. Chris Speer won the No. 1 singles match while David Pachowicz and Ross Putterman teamed up to get a big win in the No. 1 doubles match.
McHenry d. Grayslake N.: Grayslake North won both the No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles matches, but McHenry made up ground by taking three of four doubles matches on its way to a 4-3 victory. Grayslake North's Peter Kopacz won the No. 1 singles match over Szymon Linette while Brian Hook and Drew Hauck teamed up to bring Grayslake North a victory in the No. 1 doubles match.

Mundelein 11, Grayslake N. 4:ŒMundelein moves to 5-0 with the victory.
Barrington 7, Lake Zurich 2: Mary Handrahan had both of Lake Zurich's goals.
College baseball
Triton CC 8, CLC 7 (11): Triton scored a run in the top of the 11th inning to finally break up the marathon. Former Carmel star Zach Amrein went 3-for-5 for CLC (6-10). Rich Mascheri, Phil Sims and Jake Cobb each added 2 hits for the Lancers.
College softball
CLC sweeps Prairie State: CLC moved to 18-8 with a 13-3, 16-7 sweep of a double header with Prairie State.
In the first game, pitcher Devon Kelly moved her record to 9-1 by allowing no walks.
She got support from Alyssa Wilson, Lauren Liles, Danielle Thebault and Alex Vikartofsky, each of whom had 2 hits.
Kelly also got a win in the second game, entering in relief. She threw the last 3 innings and gave up no hits with 4 strikeouts.
The Lancers got 4 hits from Carley Karwoski and 3 hits apiece from Wilson and Liles.
