Wrap: Knott, Green Wave dump Driscoll
Falling behind 3-0 in the top of the first inning Wednesday, St. Edward's softball team battled back with three in the bottom half , and added two more runs later to earn a 5-4 Suburban Catholic Conference win over Driscoll.
Kelly Knott led some timely hitting for the Green Wave (6-4, 3-1) collecting 3 hits, a run, 2 stolen bases and an RBI. Megan Tuortellott (1-for-1, run, RBI) and Lea Diaz (hit, 2 sb, 2 runs) also contributed.
"It was really nice to get a win against Driscoll who is one of our big rivalries," said Knott. "After losing to Marian Central, it was big for us to come back out and get a win."
Sarah Field went 4 innings in the circle for the win allowing 5 hits while striking out four. Erin McGraw picked up the save by not allowing an earned run in 3 innings.
Johnsburg 4, Jacobs 2: A 3-run fourth inning put Johnsburg ahead of Jacobs (6-2) where it would stay for this Fox Valley Conference crossover win. Becky Wilson endured the loss allowing 1 earned run on 6 hits. Lauren Arceneaux was the offensive leader for the Golden Eagles going 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Burlington Central 7, Yorkville 0: With timely hitting from Kayla Oranger (2-for-3, 2 sb, RBI), Brittany Priest (2b, 2 runs, RBI), Erica Maisto (hit, 2 RBI), Abby Morrow (2b, 2 RBI) and Brooke Porto (2 runs, 2 sb), Burlington Central (10-1) earned this nonconference shutout.
Maisto was inside the circle for the complete game victory, the 66th of her career, allowing no runs on 2 hits while striking out eight.
Prairie Ridge 4, McHenry 2: A 2-run seventh inning for Prairie Ridge (6-3) was the difference in this Fox Valley Conference crossover victory against McHenry. Erika Trojan (3 IP, no runs, 1 hit) had a solid outing inside the circle as well as offensively going 2-for-3 with a triple. Brie Kinowski went 1-for-2 for the Wolves.
Streamwood 2, Elgin 1: Barb Posinger mowed down 12 batters for Streamwood (2-6, 2-2) helping the Sabres to this 2-1 win over Elgin in Upstate Eight Conference play. Danielle Vida led plate efforts for the Sabres going 2-for-4 with a triple.
Despite the loss, Elgin (1-7, 1-4) gave one of its best efforts of the year according to head coach Peg Corcoran as did losing pitcher Kelly Patchett. Patchett allowed just 2 hits while striking out four. Jen Repp (2b), Jenna Jaynes (hit, RBI), Caris Alan (hit) and Mari Aguilera (hit) led offensive efforts for the Maroons.
"This was the best outing we've had all year," said Corcoran. "We've come a long way."
Lake Forest Academy 10, Westminster Christian 0: Despite the loss, Jacklyn Brisbois and Hanna Graves broke up a no-hitter from Lake Forest with single hits in the fifth inning for Westminster Christian. Sarah Serrato endured the loss allowing 2 earned runs while striking out two in 5 innings of work.
Hampshire 8, North Boone 2: Hampshire (9-2, 2-0) took a 3-1 lead in the first inning and held on for this Big Northern East Conference win behind a solid day in the circle from Katie McBride (7 IP, 7 strikeouts). Ally Kent (2 hits, 2b), Jordan Moore (hit, 2 RBI) and Megan Roadcap (3b, 3 RBI) led the Whip-Pur offense.
South Elgin 5, Waubonsie Valley 2: The Storm (6-3, 3-3) came out victorious defeating Waubonsie Valley for an Upstate Eight Conference victory. Kim Pierce collected 2 doubles on the day for South Elgin. Layla Ismajlaj (2-for-3), and Brittany Boelter (1-for-2) each hit a double to keep South Elgin in the lead. Senior Rebecca French was in the circle all 7 innings allowing 7 hits with 8 strikeouts and 1 walk.
Woodstock 1, Huntley 0: After 12 innings of a scoreless game Woodstock pulled through to defeat the Red Raiders (5-4). Jenna Mychko (3-for-5) led for Huntley with a triple. Alex Albanese also went 3-for-5 for the Red Raiders. Sam Clemons (5-3) was in the circle allowing only 5 hits with 3 walks and 16 strikeouts.
Bartlett 14, St. Charles East 1: The Bartlett Hawks (11-1, 7-0) had unstoppable offense pounding out 16 hits. Callie Dennison, Lauren Wydra and Jillian Heidelmeier all led with a home run each. Concetta Lampugnano hit 2 doubles while Elizabeth Kay and Megan Morales each contributed a double. Wydra (8-1) improved on the season tallying 12 strikeouts with 1 walk and 3 hits.
St. Charles North 3, Larkin 2: Larkin (2-8, 2-4) battled but fell to the North Stars in Upstate Eight play. Heather Graff (1-4) was in the circle pitching all 7 innings with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks. Victoria Nino had the only hit for the Royals collecting 2 RBI on a double.
