Mundelein 4, Libertyville,2

Starting pitchers Troy Barton and Eric Rohe delivered complete games for their baseball teams.

But it was Rohe who extended his record to 5-0 as Mundelein nipped Libertyville 4-2 in both teams' North Suburban Conference Lake Division opener on Tuesday.

Rohe gave up only 3 hits, struck out eight and had no walks.

"I couldn't find the strike zone at first and then after awhile I did," Rohe said. "I got my curveball over. I was able to time my curveball with the wind."

Barton (2-2) gave up only two earned runs. He allowed 5 hits, struck out seven and walked three.

"Our defense was great the whole game," Barton said. "There was one inning that we had a meltdown. I didn't strike out many and for the most part, they were hitting groundballs and we were able to come up with the plays."

Mustangs coach Todd Parola was happy with the win, but knows his team has a lot of work ahead.

"I felt that both pitchers did a great job, but we were able to come up with the key hits," said Parola, whose Mustangs improved to 10-1 overall. "The key for us this season will be able to get more consistent offense. Defensively, we played a great game and Rohe really came through for us today."

Mundelein scored all its runs on three hits and an error in the top of the third inning.

Brad Medina, Kevin Barber, Dillon Smith (RBI) and Jack Walliser (2 RBI) each scored.

After being hitless the first 2 innings, Libertyville scored its runs in the fourth.

Joey Aiello doubled, Lee Gough walked and both scored on Louis Educate's single.

In the fifth, Libertyville (6-4) had runners on first and second with two out. Chase Guarnaccio singled to center, but center fielder Smith picked up the ball and threw a strike to catcher Medina, who tagged out the sliding runner at the plate.

Wildcats coach Jim Schurr was frustrated with the way his team played.

"The hits were even, both pitchers pitched a great game and neither team pounded the baseball," Schurr said. "We have to make plays. When you get a routine double-play ball, you have to make that play. Plus, we have to start hitting."

Lake Zurich 14, Z-B 4: Joey DeBernardis hit a 3-run homer that traveled an estimated 400 feet, according to coach Gary Simon, as the Bears cruised in the North Suburban Lake.

DeBernardis led a season-best 14-hit attack by going 3-for-3 with 5 RBI. He also doubled and walked twice.

Lake Zurich (7-3, 2-0) also got big contributions offensively from Brock Simon (2-for-4, double, 2 RBI), Reid Bergstrom (2-for-4, double), Dan Zummo (2-for-5) and Austin Schmeisser (2-for-4). Zummo pitched 5 innings, striking out six and allowing 2 earned runs, in improving to 3-0.

Antioch 9, Round Lake 5: Jim Fracek (2 RBI) and Gage Ecklund (4 RBI) homered for the Sequoits, who won for the first time this season.

Ecklund also doubled and went 2-for-2 in the North Sub urban Prairie game. Logan Kent doubled twice and was 2-for-2 for Antioch (1-5, 1-0). Ken Karagiorgas pitched 5¿ innings for the win.

Grayslake C. 9, C-G 5: Aaron Snyder held Cary-Grove to 1 run over 6 innings with 5 strikeouts.

"Aaron was amazing in the conditions," Rams coach Troy Whalen said. "It was a hitters day and he did a great job of mixing his pitches and keeping (C-G) off balance. Defensively, we were as good as we have been all year, especially the Schmidt brothers (infielders Matt and Kurt)."

Offensively, Grayslake Central (8-3) was led by Angelo Gargano with a homer and double. Shawn Tobie blasted a 3-run homer, Jordaan Williams added a double and single, and Matt Schmidt and Jackson White both doubled. Kurt Schmidt had 2 singles.

Warren 7, Lake Forest 5: Mike McCann homered and knocked in a pair of runs, and Sean Kennedy was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI for the Blue Devils, who broke a 5-5 tie with 2 runs in the top of the seventh of the North Suburban Lake contest.

Warren got doubles from Ryan Brown, Kennedy and Chad Johnson. D.J. Schaefer earned the win in relief of Tony Roberts.

Stevenson 11, Hersey 0: Matt Robin fired a 5-inning no-hitter with 9 strikeouts, and Kyle Ruchim homered twice in the nonconference game.

Ruchim scored 3 runs and drove in three. David Savitt also hit a homer for Stevenson (6-4), and Dan Morales had a double.

Wauconda 5, Grant 1: Bryce Lahrman struck out 11 and allowed just 5 hits in a complete-game effort, as he beat Northern Illinois recruit Kyle Stroup.

Wauconda (5-3) was led offensively in the North Suburban Prairie opener by Jamey Carey and Eric Johnson, both of whom went 2-for-3.

Stroup had 10 strikeouts in suffering the loss.

Grayslake N. 8, Vernon Hills 5: The Knights scored 4 runs in both the sixth and seventh innings in wiping out a deficit that was 5-0 after two innings.

P.J. Marsek (3 runs), Mason Hezner (double, 2 RBI) and Brad Schnitzer (single, 2 RBI) led the Cougars offensively.

Lakes 10, N. Chicago 0: The Eagles had 20 hits in improving to 4-5 overall.

Round Lake 8, Z-B 6: On Monday, Anthony Milianti doubled twice, drove in three runs and earned the win on the mound, as the Panthers won their first game of the season.

Nikko Carroll was 3-for-4 for Round Lake (1-5).
