Wrap: Kondrath's hit carries St. Edward to victory
St. Edward's baseball team clawed its way back from two deficits to earn a 7-6 Suburban Catholic Conference win in eight innings over Immaculate Conception Friday.
Mike Kondrath (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI) had the game-winning RBI for the Green Wave (3-4, 2-1) with a bases-loaded, walk off single in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Riley Coleman was on the mound for the win allowing 6 runs, just 1 earned, on 5 hits while striking out five in the 8-inning performance. Additional offense from T.J. Madzy (2-for-3), David Hoebbel (2-for-4) and Anthony Bauer (HR).
Baseball
Larkin 13, Lake Park 6: With big plate appearances from Justin Kalusa (2-for-4, RBI), John Banks (2-for-3, 2 runs), Jake Kane (2-run home run) and Reid Ellis (2-for-4, 2 RBI), Larkin (4-4, 3-2) earned this Upstate Eight Conference win over Lake Park.
Tyler Shore improved to 2-0 allowing one earned run on 4 hits with 6 strikeouts in the complete game effort.
Geneva 21, Hampshire 10: Despite dropping this nonconference contest to Geneva in 5 innings, Hampshire (2-6) saw solid hitting from Ryan Burke (3-for-4, 2b, 4 RBI), Joe Moore (2-for-3, RBI), Cameron Rath (2-for-3), Bo Price (2-for-2) and Zach Crinigan (3-run home run).
Brandon Gehringer endured the loss allowing 4 runs, 3 earned on 2 hits.
Bartlett 8, St. Charles East 7: An 8-run fifth inning lifted Bartlett (4-2, 3-1) past St. Charles East for this Upstate Eight Conference win. Timely hitting from Ryan Walker (2-for-4), Mike Selvaggi (2-for-4) and Kyle Burden (3-for-3, 2b) led the Hawks offense.
On the mound for 5¿ innings, Mike Derby (3-0) earned the victory striking out nine and allowing 5 runs on 5 hits.
Dundee-Crown 14, Huntley 12: A big day offensively for both teams, Dundee-Crown (4-2) came out ahead of this Fox Valley Conference crossover contest. Leading the Chargers at the plate were Eric Barber (HR), Logan Kissack (2-for-3, 2b, HR) and Ben Rodriguez (HR). The offense lifted the Chargers past a 5-0 deficit in the first inning. Jeff Bober was on the mound for the victory, while Huntley's Ray Foote (1¿ IP, 3 runs, 0 earned, hit, 4 strikeouts) endured the loss.
The Red Raiders (7-4) had doubles from Eliott Swiatly (2-for-5), Foote, Nathan Sopena (3-for-4) and Tyler Funke.
Carmel 10, Cary-Grove 1: Overpowered offensively, Cary-Grove (9-1) lost its first game of the season in nonconference action. Ben Mottashed (3-1) took the loss allowing 8 hits in 3 innings of work while striking out three. Nick Hammonds led the Trojan offense with a double.
Neuqua Valley 16, South Elgin 2: Unable to generate any offense, South Elgin (1-3, 1-3) dropped this Upstate Eight Conference contest in 5 innings. Kyle Kinyon was on the mound for the loss.
Girls soccer
Rochelle 1, Streamwood 0: Unable to generate any offense, Streamwood (4-4-3) dropped this nonconference match in the West Aurora Tournament. Pearl Patel recorded 5 saves in goal for the Sabres.
Softball
South Elgin clinic: The South Elgin High School girls softball players, head coach Jason Schaal and the varsity coaching staff will be hosting a hitting and fielding softball clinic for girls ages 10-14 on Sunday from 8 a.m. until noon at The Hitting Zone in Bartlett.
For players ages 10-11, the clinic will run from 8-10 a.m. and from 10 a.m. until noon for players ages 12-14.
