The briefs

Cary to conduct controlled burn

The village of Cary's Department of Public Works will be performing its annual controlled burn of prairie grass and wild flowers in the right-of-way between the Union Pacific Railroad and Route 14 from West Main Street to Three Oaks Road.

The burn is tentatively set for Tuesday, weather permitting.

A periodic burning is necessary to promote proper and desirable growth of the prairie grass and wild flowers.

"This program is part of the village's ongoing public property beautification efforts," said village Trustee Tom Kierna. Drivers may encounter smoke during the burn while traveling along Route 14 and are asked to use extra caution while driving.
