Local students excel at drafting competition
McHenry County College has announced the winners of the 2008 Illinois Drafting Educators Regional Competition held March 7 at the college.
A total of 60 students from four area high schools -- Cary-Grove, Crystal Lake South, McHenry and Prairie Ridge -- participated in this competition.
In addition to the skills competition, a scholarship for $300 that can be used toward tuition, books, supplies and fees at MCC was awarded to Kayla Lauth of Crystal Lake South.
The following students won awards.
• Architectural Board: Jeremiah Smith, Cary-Grove, first place.
• Architectural CAD-2D: Kurt Nieween, Prairie Ridge, first place; TJ Fabella, Crystal Lake South, second place; Ryan Parks, McHenry, third place; and Eric Wilde, Crystal Lake South, third place.
• Architectural CAD-3D: Sean Vanatta, Prairie Ridge, first place
• Intro Board: Jason Cassens, Prairie Ridge, first place
• Intro Computer-Aided Design: Sarah Busch, Crystal Lake South, first place; and Matt Mallon, Crystal Lake South High, second place
• Machine CAD: Dan Thoma, first place, and Chad Cassens, second place, both from Prairie Ridge
• Solids: Patt Gross, Cary-Grove, first place; Bill Kasper, Crystal Lake South, second place; and Jonathan Lubow and Travis Weber, both of Cary-Grove, tied for third place
High school instructors included Jesse Bader, Cary-Grove; Nick Low, Prairie Ridge; Jay Wiese, Crystal Lake South; and Russ Micklinghoff, McHenry.
