Miscellaneous

In an effort to seek common ground and greater understanding between neighbors of different faiths, a series of interfaith dialogues have been planned at three distinct houses of worship.

Patterned after "Abraham Salons" suggested by author Bruce Feiler in his book, "Abraham," each community will jointly stage three different discussions focusing on each of the faiths. The presentations will emphasize the common heritage that began with Abraham, whose story inspires all three of the faiths.

Rabbi Max Weiss of Beth Tikvah Congregation, the Rev. Don Myrom of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, and Dr. Khalid Sami of the Islamic Society of Northwest Suburbs will each speak on their own faith at another's house of worship.

The second event will be at 7 p.m. March 27 at Beth Tikvah Congregation, 300 Hillcrest Blvd., Hoffman Estates, with a presentation by Dr. Khalid Sami on Islam. The third event will take place at 5 p.m. April 12 at the Islamic Society of Northwest Suburbs Mosque, 3950 Industrial Drive, Rolling Meadows, with a presentation by the Rev. Don Myrom.

Each meeting will start with a 20-minute presentation by the featured speaker on their faith, followed by comments from the two other faith leaders. There will also be time for questions from the audience. A short dessert fellowship will conclude each evening.

St. John the Evangelist Church will have a Texas Hold 'em Tournament at Kyle Hall, 513 Parkside Circle, Streamwood, at 6 p.m. April 19. Trinity Lutheran Church, Roselle, will dedicate its new Care Center with a "parade from old to new" and other activities today. The new building, at 233 E. Maple, will house both child care and adult care facilities as well as a forthcoming youth center.

The dedication will begin at the older facility at 575 S. Rush with opening remarks and devotions at 10:45 a.m., followed by an Easter egg hunt. After the hunt, the children will line up for a parade to the new facility -- just a few blocks away. At the new center, there will be an official welcome and blessing from Senior Pastor the Rev. Charles S. Mueller, Jr., as well as a few other speakers, including Roselle Mayor Gayle Smolinski. There will then be a ribbon-cutting followed by refreshments and building tours. (630) 894-3263.

Performances

"The Witness," a dramatic musical by Jimmy & Carol Owens which tells the story of the life of Christ as seen through the eyes of his disciple Peter, will be performed by Life Singers Ministries at Living Christ Lutheran Church, 1402 Arlington Drive in Hanover Park (the blue church on the corner of Arlington and Greenbrook) today. A raffle and refreshments will precede the event at 7 p.m., with the performance beginning at 7:30 p.m. Free childcare will be provided for young children. Special services

The Divine Mercy of Jesus Devotion will be held at 2 p.m. March 30 at St. Ansgar Catholic Church, 2040 Laurel Ave., Hanover Park, and at 5 p.m. at St. Marcelline Catholic Church, 820 S. Springinsguth Road, Schaumburg. There will be a procession, Chaplet of the Divine Mercy and benediction. Knights of Columbus from both parishes will provide Honor Guards. Women's programs

Women at the Well, St. Marcelline's newest ministry for women, will meet at 7 p.m. April 11 in the Family Room. A light meal is planned for the evening, and a presentation titled "Women of the Bible," will be presented by Chrissy Zaker.
