Briefs: Service marks Iraq war

An interfaith service to mark the fifth anniversary of the beginning of the Iraq war will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 25 E. Benton St., Naperville. Kareem Irfan, the chairman of the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago, will be the speaker. Participants will have the opportunity to sign a letter asking elected officials to bring the conflict to a responsible conclusion. The service is free. Refreshments and socializing will follow the service.

New Ray Graham program

Young adults with mild disabilities have an opportunity to live in a supported apartment setting as part of a new Monarch Living Program of the Ray Graham Association for People with Disabilities. The program is taking registration now for eight participants who can move this spring into the Monarch Living residence within walking distance of downtown Elmhurst and the Metra rail line. During their year's stay, they will receive training to enhance the skills needed for them to achieve independence and thrive in the community. Squad car damaged

A Glendale Heights police squad car was struck from behind early Friday while an officer was on a traffic stop on the westbound shoulder of North Avenue near Goodrich Avenue. No injuries were reported. Police said Ryan Roth, 25, of 1850 Wright Lane in Hanover Park was driving a 1994 Dodge Intrepid that struck the squad while it was stopped at a traffic light. Both vehicles sustained considerable damage and were towed from the scene, police said. Roth has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, police said. Roth was released on bond with a pending court date in April.

WWS choral event today

The first Wheaton Warrenville South High Choral Classic is being held today at the school, located at 1920 S. Wiesbrook Road in Wheaton. This choral festival will include competitions for show choirs, soloists, and other groups and ensembles from five states. Performances begin at 8 a.m. and continue until 9:30 p.m. An awards ceremony is planned for 9:35 p.m. Admission for the preliminary competition is $8 per person or $6 for senior citizens and students with ID. Admission for the finals, which start at 6:30 p.m., is also $8 per person or $6 for senior citizens and students with ID. All-day passes can be purchased for $12 or $10 senior citizens and students with ID. Children 5 or younger are admitted free.

Fair offers games, prizes

Madison Elementary School's fifth annual Fun Fair will be from noon to 4 p.m. today at the school, 150 W. Madison St., Lombard. Admission is free; wristbands that allow unlimited games cost $10. Individual game tickets and raffle entries also will be sold at the door. Raffle prizes include overnight hotel stays and Mia, the newest American Girl doll. For details, call (630) 827-4100.

Parade begins at noon

Elmhurst's St. Pat's Day Parade steps off at noon today at Wilson Street and Spring Road in Elmhurst. The parade travels north on Spring Road. Dozens of groups are appearing in this year's event. For details, visit www.elmhurststpatsparade.com.
