Briefs: Driver ticketed in crash

A 60-year-old Bartlett woman injured in a four-vehicle collision in Streamwood Feb. 27 has been upgraded to stable condition, while police have issued a ticket for improper lane use to the driver they say was at fault. David Demay, 48, of Schaumburg, was given a court date of April 1. Streamwood Detective Paul Petrick said Demay told authorities that, because of the injuries he sustained, he can't remember the circumstances that caused him to cross over from the northbound to the southbound lane of Route 59 and strike the car in which the Bartlett woman was a passenger. Demay and the Bartlett woman's husband were also hospitalized but released last weekend. Two other vehicles were struck in the aftermath of the initial collision, but no one in those vehicles was injured. Police declined to identified the woman and her husband.

Mt. Prospect cites state

The Mount Prospect village board has passed a resolution calling upon the Illinois General Assembly to stop authorizing new or increased pension benefits and pass sensible reforms to protect funds that provide retirement benefits for municipal police officers and firefighters. Police and fire pension funds statewide are underfunded by about $180,000 per active employee, said Mount Prospect Mayor Irvana Wilks. To help prevent further erosion in the fiscal condition of the funds, the village is calling on the General Assembly to stop any proposed legislation that would create new or increased pension benefits.

Impaired drivers targeted:

Wheeling police officers will target impaired drivers with a roadside safety checkpoint March 15 and DUI saturation patrols during the entire St. Patrick's Day weekend. The department reminds party-goers to act responsibly by making alternative travel arrangements if their celebration plans include alcohol consumption.
