Wheaton entrepreneur sees Visions can fill an area business need

Wheaton native Dantley Tillman says he's always been an entrepreneur at heart.

Tillman, wanting to run a business in the community he has grown to love, now operates Visions Barber Shop & Beauty Salon at 726 S. Lorraine Road in Wheaton.

He says the shop offers a relaxed and comfortable environment. Tillman, 31, says the four barbers and two stylists that work at the salon cut all types of hair.

"With the growing demographics of Wheaton, we serve all types of clients," Tillman said.

The average price for a haircut at the salon, which opened in November, is $15. One of the barbers is known for his hair art, or designs, he cuts into a customer's hair. He said this is popular for high school student athletes who want their jersey number cut into their hair before a big game.

Tillman was an athlete himself playing football and baseball when he attended Wheaton Central and Wheaton-Warrenville high schools. After graduation, he served four years in the military and then graduated from University of Illinois at Chicago.

While he attended college he ran an Internet business in which he sold calendars using photographs from school events. He also had an investment club.

For the past four years Tillman has worked in the health-care industry and continues to work in pharmaceutical sales.

In looking to start a business, he studied the needs of Wheaton. He felt the area was in need of a hair salon and barbershop like his.

The business is open from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday through Friday and 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday.
