Lake County Astronomical Society: The Lake County Astronomical Society will hold its monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. today at Volo Bog State Natural Area visitor center in Ingleside. The meeting is followed at 8:30 p.m. with the presentation "The Outer Planets-Missions and Discoveries" by Jim Kovac of the Chicago Society for Space Studies. Weather permitting, there will be a public star party at 9:30 p.m. www.lcas-astronomy.org.

Zion Genealogical Society: The Zion Genealogical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Monday on the lower level of the Beach Park village hall, 11270 W. Wadsworth Road, Beach Park. Burlington Genealogical Society: The Burlington Genealogical Society will hold a "Pass Around" at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Burlington High School, 400 McCanna Parkway, Burlington, Wis. Members and visitors are invited to bring articles, magazines, syllabuses, lecture notes, charts, etc., to pass around and share. Lake County Astronomical Society: The Lake County Astronomical Society is hosting a free lunar eclipse observing event, weather permitting, at 7 p.m. Wednesday outside of the Volo Bog State Natural Area visitors center in Ingleside. Members will be on hand with telescopes and binoculars to share views with the public of the eclipse as well as of Saturn, Mars and other astronomical objects. www.lcas-astronomy.org.

Lincolnshire Garden Club: The Lincolnshire Garden Club will meet Thursday at the Vernon Hills Public Library, 300 Peterson Road, Vernon Hills. A continental breakfast begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by the business meeting at 10 a.m. The program, by Carolyn Urlich, editor of Chicagoland Gardening Magazine, begins at 10:30 a.m.

Sisterhood of Congregation Beth Judea: The Sisterhood of Congregation Beth Judea will host Sue Lewis, the education vice president of the Central Great Lakes Region of Women's Leagues, at 7:45 p.m. Thursday in the synagogue's social hall, Route 83 and Hilltop Road, Long Grove. Garden Club of Inverness: The Garden Club of Inverness will meet at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at All Saints Lutheran Church, 630 S. Quentin Road, Palatine. David Husmuller and his wife, Peggy Wingo, owners of Earth Wild Garden Center in Grayslake, will share a variety of wildflower possibilities for early spring planting. All gardeners are welcome. American Society for Quality: Northeastern Illinois Section of the American Society for Quality will meet Thursday at the Arboretum Club, 401 W. Half Day Road, Buffalo Grove. The pre-meeting clinic on "Successful Supply Chain/Supplier Quality Management" will begin at 5:30 p.m. Dinner at 6:30 p.m. for a $20 fee. The main presentation will feature an FDA auditor speaking on "Difficult Decisions." There is no cost for the meeting attendance only.

Compassionate Friends: The Northern Lake County Illinois Compassionate Friends Chapter will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Milburn Church, Grass Lake Road and Route 45, Milburn. Council of Catholic Nurses of Lake County: The Council of Catholic Nurses of Lake County will hold a Lenten Day Recollection from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 23 at Marytown Retreat Center, 1600 W. Park Ave., Libertyville. Several interesting topics will be discussed followed by Mass at noon then lunch. Members $25; nonmembers, $30. A donation for Marytown's resale shop is also requested. Inverness Women's Club scholarships: The Women's Club of Inverness, as part of its annual charitable giving, sponsors several $1,000 scholarships that will be awarded to graduating seniors, college students and returning students residing in District 211 or 220. Scholarship grants are based on financial need and strong academic achievement. Applications are available in the guidance offices of local high schools. Deadline for submission is March 14.
