Senior Stroll to be held in Hampshire

A little cold and snow shouldn't stop seniors from enjoying some quality time outdoors on Thursday

That's the next "Senior Stroll," a free monthly program for senior citizens offered by the Forest Preserve District of Kane County.

Senior Stroll takes place at alternating forest preserves throughout the county. Weather permitting, the program includes a brief, naturalist-guided hike with a focus on varying nature topics.

February's Senior Stroll will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Hampshire Forest Preserve, 44W780 Allen Road, Hampshire.

Church to sponsor a fun faire for kids

Joy Community Presbyterian Church, 108 S. Lakewood Road, Lake in the Hills, will hold a Children's Fun Faire and Open House from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

For $3, there will be face painting, moon walk, popcorn, cotton candy, games, prizes and more.

MCC to offer help filling FAFSA form

A hands-on workshop to complete the federal financial aid form online using college computers will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 21 in Room A228 at McHenry County College, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake.

Staff members from the Office of Financial Aid and Veteran Services at MCC will help students or parents complete the Online Form for the 2008/2009 Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

The FAFSA form is the required document students must complete in order to be considered for the federal and state grants, work-study and student loans.

Learn how to cook with herbs Saturday

A University of Illinois Extension Master Gardener will present growing, harvesting, and preserving techniques for a variety of herbs, along with suggestions for using herbs in cooking, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Hawthorne Hill Nature Center, 28 Brookside Drive, Elgin.
