Two MCC volleyball players picked as All-Americans
Two McHenry County College students have been selected by the National Junior College Athletic Association as Division II All-American volleyball players.
Lindsey Loescher, a Crystal Lake South High School graduate, has been selected as an NJCAA D II Volleyball First Team All-American as one of the top-ranked outside hitters in the nation.
Amanda Pagels, a Cary-Grove High School graduate, earned Second Team All-American recognition as the highest ranked All-American libero (defensive back).
Both are Lady Scots' sophomores and helped lead MCC to its third consecutive District Championship and NJCAA national tournament appearance.
The Scots have qualified for nationals in four of the past five seasons. McHenry County College, under the leadership of NJCAA District and Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Coach of the Year Chas Kennedy, finished the 2007 campaign with a sterling 40-9 overall record while winning both the ISCC regular season and tournament championships by going undefeated (12-0) in conference matches.
"I'm very proud of these two young women as they both have earned and are very deserving of All-American recognition," Kennedy said.
"They are fine students, and contributed mightily, as did the other seven members of the team, to one of the best seasons in MCC's illustrious volleyball history. We're going to miss them and the other two sophomores: Candace Kilgore, Crystal Lake Central, and Jessica Rydz Jacobs High School, Algonquin, as they go on next year but we expect to have a good core group returning.
"The search for additional high quality and high character volleyball student-athletes for the 2008 Scots' squad is under way."
