Wrap: Minus Ruetsche, Grant still wins
Heather Ruetsche is one player Grant's girls basketball cannot afford to lose.
The senior, who's played great in her first season at point guard, injured her shoulder in warmups prior to the Bulldogs' nonconference home game against St. Charles East on Tuesday night.
She did not play and the severity of her injury was not immediately known.
Grant won anyway, capturing a 55-35 win to improve to 22-2.
Tori Ziegler scored a game-high 17 points for the Bulldogs, while Autumn Gaylor added 15.
Jamie Swanson chipped in 8 and C.J. Hill, filling in at point in place of Ruetsche, scored 6. Bailey Wagner grabbed 14 rebounds and also scored 6 points.
St. Charles East fell to 13-8.
Stevenson 46, Lyons 40: The Patriots captured the Sweet 16 tournament game in LaGrange for their fifth win in a row.
Stevenson (9-15) received 13 points from Caitlin Morrissey, 12 from Michelle O'Brien and 11 from Anna Morrissey.
Deerfield 55, Vernon Hills 44: The host Warriors received 13 points apiece from Dani Ripkey and Liz Heitzinger. Colleen Forrest and Kiley Hierl added 11 and 10, respectively, for Deerfield.
Vernon Hills (9-14) was led by Amy Burton's 14 points. Taryn Abbassian had 10.
GBN 53, Wauconda 40: Jessica Ponticelli had 16 points and Jenna Wallis added 15 for visiting Glenbrook North in the nonconference game.
Wauconda (9-11) was led by Courtney Kimes' 14 points, which included three 3-pointers. Lauren Mead scored 9 points.
CL Central 49, Grayslake N. 40: Hilary Kuhl scored 10 points for the visiting Knights.
Elizabeth Phillips and Lauren Erickson added 9 apiece for Grayslake North (9-11, 2-3 Fox Valley Fox).
