Briefs: Board to go over TIF

The joint review board that has been looking at the proposed Long Grove tax increment financing district will meet once again today to make a recommendation on the issue before a public hearing Tuesday. At the Long Grove village board meeting this week, Trustee Ted Lazakis said the board, which is made of interested and affected taxing bodies, had been looking at whether the proposed TIF area downtown meets eligibility requirements. He said questions have also come up about what constitutes vacancies, which is one of the requirements for establishing a TIF. The public hearing at 8 p.m. Tuesday will be held at Kildeer Countryside Elementary School, 3100 Old McHenry Road. For more information, visit www.longgrove.net.

Raise for Rosemont vendor

Rosemont on Wednesday increased by 3 percent its pay to a cleaning company owned by the mayor's brother. Bomark Cleaning Service Corp., which is run by Mark Stephens, pays its employees an hourly wage and the village then pays Bomark and helps cover benefits. Bomark handles the services for village-run properties. Village officials, including Mayor Bradley Stephens, didn't have immediate figures available.

Teachers back Froehlich

Representatives of the Illinois Federation of Teachers and the Illinois Education Association Tuesday announced their endorsement of state Rep. Paul Froehlich of Schaumburg in the Feb. 5 Democratic primary. Political newcomer John Moynihan of Schaumburg, an attorney specializing in financial cases, is challenging Froehlich. The IFT represents 80,000 teachers and paraprofessionals in Illinois and the IEA represents more than 130,000 education employees. Each union bases its endorsements on a candidate's voting record on legislation related to education and their commitment to supporting educational programs, resources and opportunities in local schools.

Death ruled an accident

The death of a Carpentersville teenager in a crash Dec. 8 was ruled an accident Wednesday by a coroner's inquest jury. Edgar M. Rico, 17, died as a result of head and chest injuries in the crash on Route 62 near Barrington Hills, the jurors ruled. The crash took place after Rico's car crossed the median and hit an oncoming car.

Bartlett band raises funds

Saturday, in preparation for their Disney World performance on March 26, Bartlett High School Band members will hold a bowling fundraising event. "Fill the House for the Mouse" will be held at Brunswick Bowl in Roselle at 7:45 p.m. All donations and proceeds will help to offset the student cost of the trip.
