Kids' reading starts in Bensenville

The Kids Winter Reading Program begins this week at Bensenville Public Library, 200 S. Church Road, Bensenville. Children are encouraged to keep a journal of the reading that they do until Feb. 16. There will be prizes given to all who participate. For details, call (630) 766-4642.

Chess club begins again in Roselle

A youth chess club, for children ages seven through 17 years old, continues from 4 to 5 p.m. Mondays through March 17 at Roselle Public Library, 40 S. Park St., Roselle. Kids can play chess with each other, work on strategies and develop thinking skills during the 11-week session. Registration is open now and is ongoing throughout the session. Join winter reading program in Roselle

A winter reading program for children through sixth grade, "Dragons, Dreams and Daring Deeds!" begins this week and runs through March 3 at Roselle Public Library, 40 S. Park St., Roselle. The program includes reading books, listening to books being read, or listening to audio books. Kids receive program bookmark and a game sheet to mark off the amount of minutes they spend reading. When participants log in their minutes at the Library's Youth Services desk, they'll receive a ticket for a grand prize drawing. Readers also receive prizes for reaching the three-, six- and nine-hour reading levels and beyond. There is a special bonus prize drawing for readers who read more than nine hours. Make paste paper in Bloomingdale

The Bloomingdale Artist Association will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Bloomingdale Park District Museum, 108 S. Bloomingdale Road, Bloomingdale. Cheryl Mahowald and Carla Klausler, who are teachers with the hand-papermaking and hand-bookbinding company Prairie Spirit Paper, will give a hands-on demonstration on how to create and use colorful paste paper. Student exhibit is open at COD

Designs by College of DuPage Advertising, Design and Illustration students will be on display through Feb. 7 in the Wings Student Art Gallery on the first floor of the Student Resource Center at College of DuPage, 425 Fawell Blvd., Glen Ellyn. The works explore the client-designer relationship and the role of design in the economy, politics and culture. Admission is free and open to the public.
