Hoffman Estates wins McHenry title; Wheeling, Conant roll
Megan Fischer was named tournament MVP as Hoffman Estates won twice Saturday to complete the McHenry tournament with a 5-0 record to earn the outright championship. The Hawks (12-5) also won their Thanksgiving tournament at Elk Grove.
Fischer scored a game-high 17 points in Hoffman Estates' 64-31 win over Marian Catholic in an afternoon game. Jada Stotts, who also made first team all-tournament, scored 10 points for Hoffman, which shut out Marian in the final quarter.
Later in the afternoon, Hoffman Estates topped Rockford Jefferson 66-43 behind 20 points from Fischer.
Wheeling 58, Lake Forest 39: Ashley Wilson produced 22 points, 9 rebounds, 5 steals and 1 assist and 1 block to help power Wheeling past Lake Forest 58-39 in tournament pool play at Warren.
Janelle Cannon (11 points) and Stephanie Kuzmanic (10) also hit double figures for the Wildcats (14-2).
Lindsey Mills and Bianca Szafarowicz both had 2 blocks for Wheeling. Illinois-bound Lana Rukavina is nursing a leg injury and did not play.
Conant 49, Belvidere 20: Michelle Rawleigh scored a game-high 20 points, single-handedly equaling Belvidere's scoring output in tournament play at Mundelein.
The Cougars (12-0) also got 10 points from Ariana Zades.
Conant held Belvidere to 9 points over the final three quarters.
Hinsdale S. 47, St. Viator 40:ŒJenny Muench led St. Viator with 11 points but the Lions were outscored 17-3 at the foul line and dropped a nonconference game to Hinsdale South.
Rolling Meadows 51, Zion-Benton 49:ŒAlexa Bennett made six 3-pointers and finished with a game-high 29 points to lift the Mustangs (4-9) in tournament play at Mundelein.
Shannon McGuire had points for Rolling Meadows, which trailed by 5 at the half but outscored the Zee-Bees 15-9 in the third quarter to pull ahead by a point.
Schaumburg 53, Johnsburg 41: The Saxons' long drive was worth it as they earned a nonconference victory behind a game-high 18 points from Kylie Castans, who canned four 3-pointers.
Gabrielle Blackwell finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds and Drewann Pancratz contributed 12 points as Schaumburg remained unbeaten and improved to 13-0.
