The Fox River Grove Memorial Library is at 407 Lincoln Ave., Fox River Grove. Library hours are 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

Display cases: Watch the January display cases at the library for some beautiful examples of our creative knitters, crocheters and handcrafters.

Library closed: The library will be closed Dec. 24, 25, 31 and Jan. 1. Happy Holidays to all our friends and patrons.

For youth

Young Authors Project: Reminding all students in first through eighth grades, residing in the boundaries of School District 3, to submit original fiction, nonfiction, poetry, plays or scripts for the Young Authors Project.

Entry forms and project rules will be available at the library starting Jan. 2. All completed entries are due at the library by 8:30 p.m. Jan. 30.

Children's Happy Hour: Program for infants through second grades with a parent will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Fridays, Jan. 4 through Feb. 22. Drop by the library on Friday mornings at 10:30. The meeting room will be filled with themed books, puppets, puzzles and coloring sheets. Meet other parents while your children learn and make new friends. No registration is required.

Singing with Mark and Jean: Program will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Jan. 12 for pre-kindergarten through fourth grades with parents. Come to this family-oriented program!. Mark and Jean weave an eclectic mix of tunes such as "On Top of Spaghetti" and "The Unicorn" into a tapestry of fun that the whole family can enjoy.

Have to Have a Habitat: Program will meet from 4 to 4:45 p.m. Jan. 30. Child in pre-kindergarten through third grades are invited to register for this program presented by the McHenry County Conservation District about local animals, what they need to survive, and how humans can help them. Highlights include a puppet show and a habitat game. Registration is required. Sign up at the Ask Me Desk in Youth Services.

For teens

Guitar Hero competitions: Competitions will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4 for fifth through eighth grades; and 6:30 to 8 p.m. Jan. 25 for ninth through 12th grades. We'll find out what talent FRG has to offer during our elimination rounds.

Registration is required for these competitions. Space is limited. All teens must have a permission form signed by a parent or guardian prior to the scheduled program. This game is rated "teen."
