Briefs: Township offers help

Ela Township is currently accepting applications from social service agencies and community organizations requesting funding for fiscal year 2008. Funding is meant to help local agencies and other groups provide direct social and community services to township residents. The township may award funds to nonprofit groups that provide a needed service to township residents. Application forms are available at the township supervisor's office, 99 E. Main St., Lake Zurich, by calling (847) 438-7823 or by e-mail at elatownship@sbcglobal.net. Completed request forms must be received no later than 5 p.m. Jan. 2 either by e-mail or by mail to 99 E. Snowmobile and car crash

A man was thrown from his snowmobile during a Grayslake crash Thursday evening but was not seriously hurt, according to Grayslake Fire Department officials. Grayslake fire Capt. John Cokefair said the accident happened just before 5 p.m. at Rollins Road just west of Sheldon Drive. "It appears the snowmobile pulled out in front of the car," Cokefair said. A man was thrown from the snowmobile, but was not seriously hurt. He was taken to Lake Forest Hospital to be checked, though he was up and walking around by the time paramedics arrived, Cokefair said. No one else was hurt. Cokefair said the road was not closed but traffic did slow for some time after the crash.

Ski by candlelight tonight

The McHenry County Conservation District will host its Candlelight Cross County Ski Program from 5 to 9 p.m. today and Saturday at The Hollows Conservation Area, 3804 Route 14, Cary. Bring your own skis and enjoy refreshments afterward around the campfire. Skiers of every level and age are welcome to ski trails lit by candlelight. Fund set up for girl

A fund has been established to help Lake Villa 15-year-old Taylor Granitz, who is traveling to Arizona today to undergo surgery to treat a rare cystic brain disease. The Taylor Granitz fund will help with travel expenses, medical fees not covered by insurance and legal fees. The fund has been established at Lake Villa Community Bank, 345 S. Vernon Hills residents are encouraged to donate a new, unwrapped toy for the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program. Drop-offs can be made until Dec. 18 at the police department, 754 Lakeview Parkway at any time or weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the village hall, 290 Evergreen Drive.
