Wheaton North @ WW South
Wheaton North (5-1, 1-0) at WW South (6-0, 1-0)
The season's first cross-town game is another eagerly anticipated DuPage Valley Conference matchup. Wheaton North suffered its lone loss to St. Joseph while WW South, after starting last season with seven losses, has been extremely effective despite being without seven football players for most of its games. Many of those players are still working their way into basketball shape, including 6-foot-6 Kendrick Perry, who will help fend off Wheaton North's inside game. The Tigers thrive on balance. Byron Given scored 19 points on five 3s against West Chicago and Derek Babb poured in 16 points in Monday's win over Hinsdale Central. "We have to continue to shoot better and try to keep up with their scoring," said Tigers coach Mike Healy. Pre-season DVC favorite Wheaton North counters with a classic inside-outside game. Six-seven John Bagge, a third-year starter committed to Hillsdale College, is joined in the post by 6-8 Tom Fitzpatrick, who's recovering from an ankle injury. The Falcons still love the perimeter, though. Kristian Rosenberger nailed five 3s and tallied 30 points against Bartlett. Dave Pilalis and Steve Pierotti offer more outside threats against stingy WW South. "We have to be good inside and outside," said Falcons coach Jim Nazos.
