Police say man used stun gun to rob driver
A Crystal Lake man Wednesday was accused of using a stun gun to rob a man who had offered him a ride.
Bradley M. West, 21, 501 Peachtree Court, was charged with armed robbery after the Tuesday afternoon at a residential intersection in Lake in the Hills.
Lake in the Hills police Sgt. Don Fowler said the victim, also of Crystal Lake, had agreed to give West a ride from Crystal Lake into the Lake in the Hills area Tuesday. When they reached an area near Council Trail and Jessie Road, the victim told police, West told him to pull over.
"He told him to stop, brandished the stun gun and requested his valuable items," Fowler said.
The criminal complaint against West states he took $35 cash, a $25 Farm and Fleet gift card and a $25 gift card from CVS Pharmacy before fleeing the car on foot. The victim was not harmed.
There are no other suspects in the robbery, Fowler said, but the case remains under investigation. It does not appear the two men knew one another prior to Tuesday, he added.
West's bond was set at $10,000 Wednesday.
If found guilty of the armed robbery charge, he would face a minimum six and maximum 30 years in prison.
West's arrest comes just 19 days after he pleaded guilty to a felony theft charge alleging that on Sept. 12 he stole more than $300 in jewelry from a woman in Woodstock.
Under a plea bargain, West received a one-year conditional discharge, but because of the new allegations prosecutors could try to revoke the deal and have him re-sentenced to two to five years in prison.
