Lake County Astronomical Society: Lake County Astronomical Society. The Lake County Astronomical Society will meet 7:30 p.m. today at the Volo Bog State Natural Area visitor's center in Ingleside. The meeting begins with a business session, followed by the public astronomy program at 8:30 p.m., by Larry Boyle. Boyle will present a recap of all the important events in astronomy and space exploration over the past year. A public star party follows the presentation at 9:30 p.m., weather permitting. "Les Bavards du Nord": "Les Bavards du Nord," a monthly francophone lunch group, will meet 1 p.m. Saturday for lunch and conversation in French at a Buffalo Grove restaurant. Winnetka Hadassah: Glencoe/Northbrook/Winnetka Hadassah group will hold a Malavah Malkah dinner at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Am Yisrael Congregation, 4 Happ Road, Northfield. Shoreline Dance Club: The Shoreline Dance Club will hold its next dance Saturday at the Gordon Community Center, 400 E. Illinois Road, Lake Forest. A tango lesson begins at 7:30 p.m., followed by an evening of social dancing to a variety of recorded ballroom dance music. Admission is $20 per couple for members; $25 for nonmembers. Fox Lake-Grant Township Area Historical Society: Continuing the centennial discussions to assist in the celebration of the Fox Lake Centennial, the Fox Lake-Grant Township Area Historical Society will hold a discussion at 9:30 a.m. Saturday on the businesses of the area in the last 100 years, at the Grant Hall Museum, 411 Washington St., Ingleside. White elephant auction: Northwest Chapter Hadassah, a women's Zionist organization, will hold a white elephant auction at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Village Bar & Grill, 48 Raupp Blvd., Buffalo Grove. The club offers families, couples and singles trips to Midwestern and Western ski slopes and an annual "Learn to Ski" weekend, in addition to a variety of non-skiing social activities.
