Bensenville honors residents for work

The Bensenville village board recently recognized a number of individuals for helping to improve the quality of life in the village.

The recipients of this year's Bensenville Beautification Awards are Bill and Roberta Baird, Arlene Benson, Rosa and Daniel Figuera, Gail and Bernardo Flores, Gary Fritz, Mirella Paffumi, Robert Rackow, Frank and Robin Sojka, Mark and Kathy Wasowicz, Joan and Jack Winter and Sue Levine.

Library festivities to feature Spot

A Registered Spot Celebration, in honor of the children's book character Spot the dog, will be part of the Children's Book Week festivities from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at Itasca Community Library, 500 W. Irving Park Road, Itasca.

There will be stories, crafts and a video about Spot. All ages are welcome, but the program is geared to children ages 2 to 5.

Kids can learn about harvest time

Harvest Time will be the Kreative Kids program for November from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. Thursday at Roselle Public Library, 40 S. Park St., Roselle.

Children in kindergarten through second grade will hear a story about harvesting crops, talk about favorite vegetables and create a garden harvest mobile.

Newsletter garners a statewide award

Alden Trails Intermediate Care Facility for the Developmentally Disabled in Bloomingdale received the Publication of the Year Award at the Illinois Health Care Association Convention in Peoria.

The publication, "Happy Trails," is a newsletter created and written by two residents of the facility, Kurt Junger and Derek Dyokas, as a way to share information with other residents about topics that are of interest to them.

Meet Mrs. Claus at Roselle library

Free tickets for the "Mrs. Claus Live! Tales of the North Pole" are available at Roselle Public Library, 40 S. Park St., Roselle.

The presentation by storyteller, ventriloquist and songstress Sandi Sylver will be at 1 p.m. Nov. 24. Rose Queen Elizabeth Necka will be available for kids to meet after the program.
