McHenry County Conservation District notes

For all

Backyard Birding: Identify McHenry County's winter birds and learn to attract them to your backyard at Backyard Birding, from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Prairieview Education Center, 2112 Behan Road in Crystal Lake.

Not all our feathered friends abandon us for the tropics during the winter. Some stay here year-round while others are only winter visitors to our county. Brighten those dreary winter days by bringing these winter birds to you.

This program is designed for all ages, and is offered free by McHenry County Conservation District.

Make Your Own Paper: Spend a fun afternoon learning how to Make Your Own Paper, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Wiedrich Education Center, Glacial Park, 6316 Harts Road in Ringwood.

Making your own paper is easy, fun, and environmentally responsible. Discover how to reduce, reuse and recycle all in one afternoon.

This program is for all ages, and is offered free by McHenry County Conservation District.

For adults

Hibernation Hike: Bears, chipmunks, and 13-lined ground squirrels … only one of these three animals truly hibernates. Do you know which it is?

Come to the Prairieview Education Center to clear up the myths surrounding the hidden world of hibernators. Fight off your own tendency to become dormant with a brisk night hike to end the evening.

Program, for ages 14 and older, is scheduled from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 29 at Prairieview Education Center.

For youth

Discovery Days: Bring your toddlers and join us for a fun-filled morning at Discovery Days, from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Wiedrich Education Center, Glacial Park, 6316 Harts Road in Ringwood.
