Fox Valley Giving

Giving and helping others is a Fox Valley tradition, especially during the holiday season. To share with the less fortunate in our area, consider giving to one of the following endeavors.

McHenry County

Interact: This community service club is having a coat drive, collecting new/used coats, gloves, scarves and hats through Nov. 29 in the main office at 2208 W. Three Oaks Road, Cary. Office hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The items will be donated to Direct Effect Charities and Chicago Catholic Charities.

ACRC: For holiday savings galore, reserve Saturday to do your shopping at all Chicago area Carson Prairie Scott and Bergner's department stores. Only $5 will buy a coupon packet that may be redeemed for all clearance, sale and regularly priced items, excluding cosmetics and fragrances. Every packet contains coupons for 20 percent off an incredible selection of merchandise, two special bonus merchandise offers, and a coupon for $10 off that can be used throughout the store.

For even more savings, the Entertainment 2007 savings book is now also available at the Adult & Child Rehab Center. The book is full of different ways to save on dining, sporting events, theater tickets, hotels, oil changes and much more. New to the book this year, the ability to buy restaurant certificates and gift cards at discounted prices. The Entertainment 2007 book is available for $20. Twenty percent of the proceeds from each sale will go to the Center to provide therapy and nursing services to the residents of McHenry County.

Home of the Sparrow: Home of the Sparrow is looking for donations for their Holiday Gift Program such as gift cards from grocery, drug and department stores, gas and service stations, restaurants; food baskets, items to help equip the kitchens and baths of the shelters; and direct gifts specifically intended for individual children and women living in Home of the Sparrow shelters.
