Briefs: Students appeal discipline

A DuPage County judge allowed Tuesday a hearing to be held on whether the suspension of two Naperville Unit School District 203 students was fair punishment for playing with a pellet gun. The boys were Jefferson Junior High School eighth-graders last May when the incident happened. They were suspended the first half of their freshman year at Naperville North and are attending a parochial school. Their parents filed the suit. DuPage Circuit Judge Kenneth Popejoy allowed Tuesday a hearing to be allowed to decide the issue of fairness. The judge did, though, dismiss a portion of the suit that alleged the school board acted improperly by talking about the dismissal in closed session.

Dist. 204 changes calendar

Indian Prairie Unit District 204 has made a change to its school calendar. The Feb. 19 school improvement day has been moved to Feb. 5. Therefore, classes will be in session Feb. 19 and not Feb. 5. The change was made because Feb. 5 is an election day and many Indian Prairie schools are polling locations. The Indian Prairie Parents' Council requested the school board change the calendar to limit the amount of possible contact between the public and students for safety reasons.
