Historical society to host quilt program
One of the McHenry County Historical Society's most well-attended public programs is its annual quilt program, which will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the society's museum, 6422 Main St., Union. The museum doors will open at 1 p.m.
Members will be admitted free. Admission for others is $5 for adults and $3 for seniors ages 60 and older.
This year's program theme relates to the new exhibit on the 1920s called "Arrival: the 1920s." Schley Brandt of West Chicago, relying on her 20 years of quilt teaching experience and quilts from her own collection, plans to divide her presentation into two parts.
The first will focus on life for women living in the 1920s and how that affected their quilting. During the second half, Brandt will show quilts of that era.
Members of the audience are invited to bring quilts for an informal show and tell following the program.
At 3:30 p.m., the drawing will be made for this year's raffle quilt titled "Fox and Geese." The raffle quilts are hand-quilted by the Historical Society Heritage Quilters.
Every quilt comes with a history and dedication. This year the dedication is to Beverly Fletcher of Woodstock. Fletcher is a long-time member of the Heritage Quilters.
Quilt raffle tickets are still available at the museum for $1 each or six for $5. The Fox and Geese quilt is pictured online at www.mchsonline.org.
