Galligan closure to begin
Galligan Road will be closed south of Binnie Road from Monday through Nov. 22. The road is being widened and extended south to Tyrell Road. Community Unit District 300 is creating alternative bus routes that will operate during the road closure. Parents and children should expect the road closure to add time to bus routes. District 300 says it will contact all affected parents by this weekend. Call (847) 428-4167.
Missing PTA funds probed
Police have begun a theft investigation after members of the Chesak-Martin Parent Teacher Association filed a report over missing funds, officials said Tuesday. Lake in the Hills Chief of Support Services Mary Frake said police received a report Oct. 10 from the PTA. Frake did not say how much money was reported missing, although the report was classified as a theft of more than $300 and less than $10,000. That is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison. As a precaution, officials said, Chesak-Martin's PTA asked the Illinois PTA to take control of two accounts during the investigation.
Censure plans scrapped
An attempt to censure Huntley District 158 school board member Larry Snow was scuttled after the board member who proposed the censure removed it from the board's agenda Thursday night. "I have decided to remove this from the agenda so a more comprehensive approach can be taken," board member Jim Carlin said. Carlin later resigned at the same meeting. Carlin did not specify what he meant, but board Vice President Tony Quagliano said earlier that Wednesday's joint meeting between the school board and the Huntley village board would be a more appropriate forum to address the issue. Carlin's move to censure Snow was prompted by remarks Snow made online that some saw as questioning the integrity of Huntley's elected officials.
