Wrap-up: Skeens helps VH capture 19th win
Vernon Hills' girls volleyball team crept a little closer to the 20-win mark Tuesday night.
The Cougars knocked off Zion-Benton 25-19, 25-22 in North Suburban Conference crossover action to improve to 19-10-1.
Brianna Skeens slammed 7 kills for Vernon Hills, while Kelsey Guglielmi had 11 assists and 2 aces. Amy Burton and Rachael Ramsey added 4 and 3 kills, respectively. Amy Choi posted 12 digs in the win.
Lake Zurich d. N. Chicago: Amber Miehlke's 7 kills helped lead the Bears to a 25-10, 25-8 win in a North Suburban Conference crossover.
Lake Zurich (24-5) also got 5 kills apiece from Crystal Wright and Lisa Butzen. Lydia Bauer lofted 11 assists. Wright and Audrey Bauer served 4 and 3 aces, respectively.
Wauconda d. Lake Forest: Becky Breakfield had 9 kills and 8 digs for the Bulldogs in their 25-17, 25-19 win in an NSC crossover.
Kristy Waltenburg added 14 assists for Wauconda (17-12) in its home finale. Maddie Westman chipped in 3 kills and Corinne Feight served 2 aces.
Warren d. Lakes: The Blue Devils won the NSC crossover 25-13, 25-12.
Kathy Szczesniak had 6 kills for Lakes (5-23) on senior night.
"Kathy Szczesniak continues to hit from anywhere on the court," Eagles coach Carla Thompson said. "She has really come on toward the end of the season. She plans on playing for Carthage (College) next year."
Prairie Ridge d. Grayslake Central: Tory Dohm had 4 kills in the Rams' 25-9, 25-10 loss.
Mundelein d. Round Lake: Mallory Boich had 6 kills and 3 blocks, as the Mustangs won the NSC crossover 25-18, 25-16.
Mundelein (12-17) received 5 kills apiece from Katie Randau, Megan Barron and Michelle Parssinen. Kelsey Sullivan was 61-of-62 setting with 20 assists, and Mandi Baumgartner served a pair of aces.
Labrenthia Murdock had 4 kills and 3 blocks for Round Lake. Amber Phillips had 9 blocks, and Brittany Kucia totaled 7 assists on 41-of-41 setting.
Johnsburg d. Grayslake N.: The Skyhawks prevailed 25-15, 18-25, 25-15 in the Fox Valley Conference Fox Division match.
Megan Falk had 13 kills and 24 digs for the Knights. Kaitlyn Klausner dished 12 assists for Grayslake North (15-19, 2-7).
"We played well in the second (game)," Knights coach Nikki Kirchway said. "We were much more aggressive. We served and hit the ball hard."
