Burlington Central, Dundee-Crown claim tourney titles

Burlington Central (31-3) followed up its tournament win last weekend in Bettendorf, Iowa by winning the Lincoln-Way Central Volleyball Tournament on Saturday to extend its winning streak to 20 straight.

The Rockets swept Thornwood, Marian Catholic, Joliet and Champaign Centennial and outlasted the host team 25-17, 21-25, 25-17 to win the title.

Sophomore Stephanie Holthus finished with 49 kills, 35 digs and 8 blocks, junior setter Molly Turk recorded 129 assists, 42 digs and 11 aces, sehnior Teresa Krog had 32 kills, 9 blocks and 10 aces and Brooke Porto and Brittany Priest combined to make 68 digs and went 101 of 105 on serve receive.

Dundee-Crown wins Elgin Tournament: The Chargers (21-7) went 5-0 to take the title at Elgin behind 43 kills and 44 digs from Amanda Lutzow, 24 kills and 24 digs from Stephanie Thorsen, Kathleen Collingbourne's 16 kills and 58 digs and Katie Cutinello's 80 assists.

Also competing was South Elgin (14-16), which went 3-2 with victories over Elgin (25-17, 25-17), Leyden (25-20, 25-20) and Highland (25-18, 25-16).

Leaders for the Storm included Hayley Bradley (25 kills, 26 digs), Alexa Kruel (23 kills, 13 digs) and Tara Bradley (68 sets, 7 aces).

St. Edward fifth at Minooka:ŒThe Green Wave (13-18-2) battled to a fifth-place finish behind efforts from Katie Yohn (38 assists, 16 blocks, 19 kills), Kristen Haggenjos (45 kills), Margie Haggenjos (20 digs) and Molly Kelly (14 blocks, 14 kills).

Crystal Lake South, Huntley at Autumnfest:ŒThe Gators placed eighth of the 24 teams competing at the prestigious annual tournament played at Glenbard East in Lombard despite entering as the No. 10 seed.

CL South (20-13) defeated West Aurora 25-14, 25-13, Lemont 26-24, 23-25, 25-18 but lost to Joliet Catholic 25-9, 25-19, Mother McAuley 25-15, 25-18 and Normal Community 25-22, 26-24.

The Gators were led by Katie Trayser (23 kills), Erin Johnson (22 kills, 32 blocks), Alli Meyers (46 digs) and Jordan Guida (84 assists).

Huntley finished 1-4 against some of the best competition it has faced this season. The Red Raiders (12-21) beat Lisle 25-20, 25-16 behind 9 kills from Krissy Bergquist and Toni Jaehnig's 4 kills, but Huntley was defeated by Naperville Central, Waubonsie Valley, Loyola, and Willowbrook.
