Historical society to host Tavern Day
The Glen Ellyn Historical Society's Tavern Day Festival will be from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday at the Glen Ellyn Historical Society, 800 N. Main St.
The event will include midway games, animals, jugglers, storytellers, a pig roast and the Apple Festival Bake Sale, as well as the Grand and Mystical Kickapoo Medicine Show, with performances at 1:15, 2:15 and 3:15 p.m.
Admission costs $5 and $2.50 for children ages 12 and younger. Pig roast tickets cost $15 for adults and $7.50 for kids 12 and younger.
Tickets may be purchased at McChesney and Miller Grocery and Market, 460 Crescent Blvd., Glen Ellyn; The Book Store, 475 N. Main St., Glen Ellyn; and Stacy's Tavern Museum, 557 Geneva Road, Glen Ellyn.

Arts center display to open on Monday
The Hinsdale Center for the Arts' Adornments on First opens with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5 p.m. Monday at 26 E. First St., Hinsdale.
The annual exhibition, open through Dec. 22, will include handmade gifts, workshops for adults and children, wine tastings, poetry readings and music.
Store hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. It also will be open on the following Sundays: 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 14, 1 to 4 p.m. Nov. 4 and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Dec. 2.

Elmhurst museum to open new exhibit
Native Peoples of Illinois will be on display Tuesday through Dec. 2 at the Elmhurst Historical Museum, 120 E. Park Ave.
The exhibit focuses on this area's first settlers between 1673-1835 and includes three sections: Woodland and Prairie Life, People and Places and Times of Change.

Register soon for spooktacular night
Villa Park Recreation's Spooktacular Night of Fun and Boo-ti-ful Bonfire will be Oct. 12 at the Iowa Community Center, 338 N. Iowa Ave., and the grounds of Jefferson Middle School, 255 W. Vermont St.
The event starts with scarecrow building at 6 p.m. at Iowa Community Center. Participants should bring clothes, hats, gloves and other accessories for their scarecrow. A head and hay for stuffing will be provided. The bonfire begins at 7:30 p.m.
Register by Oct. 5 for scarecrow-building. The cost is $15 for a family of five and $5 for each additional member. The bonfire is free and registration is not required. For details, call (630) 834-8970 or visit www.vprd.org.
