Waukegan motorcyclist in critical condition
A 43-year-old Waukegan motorcyclist is in critical condition after a crash near Island Lake Saturday.
William Kucera was riding a 2005 Harley Davidson motorcycle west on Route 176 around 1:31 p.m. when a Woodstock woman driving a 2004 Dodge four-door sedan east on Route 176 near Williams Park Road crossed the center line and hit Kucera, Lake County sheriff's office Sgt. Rick White said.
Several witnesses called 911, White said.
Wauconda fire officials called Flight for Life, which flew Kucera to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge around 2:02 p.m., Wauconda fire department officials said.
Kucera underwent surgery and was in critical condition at the hospital late Saturday, White said.
Charges are pending against the driver, Kay Furno, 62, but it does not appear that alcohol or drugs were a factor, White said.
White was not sure if Kucera was wearing a helmet.
No one else was injured in the crash; Furno was wearing a seat belt.
No one else was on the motorcycle with Kucera, but he was traveling with another motorcyclist who was not involved in the crash, White said.
Route 176 was closed for about three hours while police investigated.
