Marian Central takes Paris as homecoming theme this year
Students at Marian Central Catholic High School in Woodstock begin a week of homecoming festivities today.
Recently, Craig Stantesly, Student Council adviser, and Kristin Gobberg of Cary, Student Council executive president, announced that Spirit Week is filled with activities for current students, their parents and alumni.
The homecoming theme this year is "A Night in Paris," and the many goings-on include:
Monday: On "Clash Day" students dressed in pieces of clothing that would not normally be seen together. Building of the float began at the McHenry County Fairgrounds.
Today: Today's theme is "Jocks and Nerds." Freshmen and sophomores will wear sports jerseys, uniforms and other athletic attire while juniors and seniors dress as studious, intelligent learners. Float-building continues from 3 to 9:15 p.m. at the fairgrounds.
Wednesday: Wednesday is "Extreme Weather Day" and students should dress for the worst possible weather scenarios such as tornados, blizzards, snowstorms, high winds, flooding -- and, of course, hurricanes! Float-building continues from 3 to 9:15 p.m. at the fairgrounds.
Thursday: Thursday's theme is "Decades Day." Students will dress acoording to their assigned decade: seniors '80s; juniors, '60s; sophomores, 50s; and freshmen, '70s. Float-building continues until 6 p.m., and judging of floats begins.
The Powder Puff football game between the junior and senior girls begins at 7 p.m. at the football field. Admission is $2 or a canned food item. The junior and senior girls will be playing one another, and parents are encouraged to come out and enjoy the fun.
Friday: Friday is a "Spirit Dress-Down Day" with athletes in their jerseys and uniforms, and other students wearing solid red or blue shirts/Marian uniform shirts, nice jeans, socks, and tennis shoes.
The day will begin with an All-School Mass at 8:55 a.m,. followed by the introduction of Bob Welter, the 2007 Distinguished Alumni award recipient.
At 1:50 p.m., students will attend a pep rally, and then it is off to the Woodstock Square for the Homecoming Parade, beginning between 3:30 and 4 p.m.
Marian's homecoming football against St. Edward will be at 5 p.m. for the sophomore game, and 7:30 p.m. for the varsity game.
The Homecoming Queen will be crowned between the games.
Also, the 2007 award winners -- Dennis Jackson '66, Michael Eisele '81, Dirk Stanger '93, Cynthi (Parker) Lysne '95, Coach David Proffitt, Coach Gregg Wikierak; the Friends of Marian winners: Rich Hoover '84, John Guanci Jr. and Terry Stanger; and the 1987 girls volleyball team; will be inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame during the halftime in the varsity game.
Saturday: The Marian Homecoming Dance and the announcing of the Homecoming King are from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday. Doors lock at 8:30 p.m.; arrive on time.
