Swimming
Elgin Pelicans registration: The Elgin Pelicans Swim Team will hold registration for the upcoming 2007-08 season in September.
All returning traditional or new traditional swimmers in the Novice, Green and Gold groups will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 25 or Oct. 1 at the Taylor YMCA, 50 N. McLean Blvd., Elgin.
Registration forms can be found and printed out from the Web site, www.elginpelicans.org.
All new swimmers should bring a suit, towel and goggles and be expected to swim a few lengths of the pool for proper group place.
All swimmers must be Taylor YMCA members, and memberships can be purchased any time either online www.elginymca.org or by stopping at the YMCA. For details, call Bob Kemp, head coach, at (847) 888-7410, ext. 14.
Basketball
Fall Youth Basketball: Registration is under way for the Fall Youth Basketball Program at The Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way.
The fall session runs from Oct. 13 to Dec. 8 with no games the weekend of Thanksgiving. All games are played on Saturdays at The Centre with practices once per week. Don't pass up this opportunity to get your children involved in this program where your child will learn skills of the game, teamwork, sportsmanship and have fun.

Next Level: Next Level Basketball Academy, in the Schaumburg-Hoffman Estates area, is now forming fall and winter basketball teams for boys in fifth to 10th grade. Baseball/softball
South Elgin Cyclones: The South Elgin Cyclones are looking for players to join the 2008 13-U team.
The Cyclones are a travel program that recently competed in the USSSA 12-U World Series in Hutchinson, Kan.; and for the second year in a row, finished in the top 50 teams and are currently ranked fourth in the state. Members of the team who played in the 2007 World Series include: Tyler Ciancio, Jacob Hicks, Nevan Jeske, Timmy Misner, Jake Metoyer, David Palmer, Devyn Reese, Tyler Thorson, and Alex Wolfe.
The Cyclones are a member of the Kane County Bronco League with all home games played at Trolley Park. The South Elgin Cyclones anticipate another successful spring season, as well as the 13-U USSSA World Series in Battle Creek, Mich.

CDBL travel team tryouts: The Central District Baseball League will hold tryouts for the 11-U, 13-U and 14-U Travel Teams in September.
Tryouts for the 11-U Travel Team will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 23 at Plato Field No. 1. This is for players who will not turn age 12 prior to April 1, 2008.
The tryouts for the 13-U Travel Team will be at 2 p.m. Sept. 23 at Stonecrest Field No. 3. This is for 13-U players who will not turn age 14 prior to April 1, 2008.
The tryouts for 14-U Travel Team will be at 4 p.m. Sept. 23 at Stonecrest Field No. 3. This is for 14-U players who will not turn age 15 prior to April 1, 2008.

Volleyball
Coaches wanted: Sky High Volleyball, a nonprofit corporation, is growing and currently searching for additional coaches with experience to train boys and/or girls teams. The boys teams are located in Libertyville, and the girls teams are located in three locations, including Crystal Lake, Libertyville and Hoffman Estates. Convenient schedules and some benefits are offered. Ongoing training is provided to the coaching staff and many have the ability to work with some high profile athletes. Soccer
K of C contest: Local 4483 Holy Rosary Council, Knights of Columbus, will sponsor the 2007 Soccer Challenge for all 10- to 14-year-old boys and girls at 2 p.m. Sept. 16 at Melas Park Athletic Complex, 1500 W. Central, Mount Prospect. The winners of the annual event will progress through local, district and state competitions based on scores from the state-level competitions. Everyone will compete in their respective age divisions, and all contestants on the local level are recognized for their participation. Participants must furnish proof of age and written parental consent. Entry forms are available and can be filled out at Melas Park prior to competition.
