English setter club, German shepherd group events on deck

The Western English Setter Club will hold breed Specialties Sept. 15 and 16 on the grounds of the Crystal Lake Holiday Inn, 800 S. Route 31. Included will be conformation, junior showmanship and sweepstakes. Show secretary is Sharon Ehr of Cary.

Shepherd Trials: Lincolnwood Training Club for German Shepherd Dogs will hold its 67th Annual Obedience and 3rd Annual Rally Trials on Sept. 16. They will be on the club grounds at Central and Dearlove roads in Glenview. Judging starts following Pride on Parade which begins at 8:30 a.m.

Jewelry Faire: Anderson Animal Shelter of South Elgin will host its first Jewelry Faire from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 15 at Baker Memorial Church at the corner of Main Street (Route 64) and Fourth Avenue in St. Charles. For a suggested $5 donation at the door, shoppers can shop for new, antique, costume and fine jewelry and also have a chance to win raffle prizes while providing housing to homeless and abandoned animals. VST Tests: Moraine Tracking Club's Variable Surface Tracking tests will be held the morning of Sept. 16 at Lincolnshire Corporate Center on Milwaukee Avenue and Knights Bridge Parkway. Trial secretary is Teresa G. Higgin of Wheeling.

TDX deadline: Northwest Obedience Club has set Sept. 17 as the deadline to enter its Tracking Tests Excellent tests on Sept. 30 at Burnidge Forest Preserve and Paul Wolff Campgrounds, Big Timber and Coombs roads, Elgin. Send the entry fee of $95 payable to the club and entry form to Amber Perri, Trial Secretary, 26 Ascot Circle, Schaumburg, IL 60194.

New classes: District 214 Community Education has a Dog Obedience class (No. 5301) starting at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 17 and an Advanced Obedience and Rally class (No. 5302) starting at 8:30 p.m. Sept. 24. These are held in the Forest View Field House, 2121 S. Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights. Family Fun-Walk: Chicago Canine Rescue Foundation will present Mutt Strutt 2007 starting at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 15 at Lincoln Park Savings Bank, 3234 N. Damen Ave. (at Melrose), Chicago. Kick-off is 9:30 a.m. Registration costs $35 per person (children and dogs get in for free). Enjoy the strut with your canine friend and a day of music, contests, food and more. People note: Sulie Greendale-Paveza of Marengo completed her provisional assignments and is licensed by AKC to judge the balance of the working breeds plus basset hounds, dachshunds and Petit bassets griffon vendeens.
