Take your best shot for photo contest
The second annual "Unveil Bloomingdale" photography contest for amateur photographers has an entry deadline of Saturday.
Images should illustrate how parks and open spaces benefit the lives of residents of Bloomingdale Park District. All entries must be photographed at Bloomingdale parks and recreation facilities and can be during park district programs or events.
Winning entries will be displayed at the Bloomingdale Park District Museum booth at Septemberfest. Judging categories are ages 2 to 13 years old and 14 and older. Photos must identify if they were taken with a digital or 35mm camera, if the photo has been enhanced and where it was taken. Color, black-and-white and digitally enhanced photos are all acceptable.
Submissions must be 8-by-10 inches and matted. Entry forms are available at Johnston Recreation Center, 172 S. Circle Ave., Bloomingdale. For details, call Ed Reidy at (630) 529-3650.
Program to feature nursery rhymes
Mother Goose and Her Friends, a program of traditional nursery rhymes for children ages 8 and younger, will be at 11 a.m. Sept. 8 at Roselle Public Library, 40 S. Park St., Roselle. Registration is required. To register or for details, visit www.roselle.lib.il.us or call (630) 529-1641, ext. 351.
Post 1084 to host fish fries, dances
All-you-can-eat fish fries and dances will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 12 and 19 and Nov. 9 and 16 at American Legion Post 1084, 344 E. Maple Ave., Roselle.
The cost is $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children ages 5 and younger. Dinner will be served until 8 p.m. and music will be by The Johnnie Matt Trio Band.

Itasca library offers chess on Mondays
Drop-in chess is offered from 4 to 5 p.m. the second Monday of the month at the Itasca Community Library, 500 W. Irving Park Road. This is open play as opposed to chess instruction, so participants should already have knowledge of how to play the game. The library will provide tournament-style chess sets. Roselle board has Scouts post colors
