Sun City updates

Tiera Tea Society: The Tiara Tea Society will have an early bird dinner at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 19 at Crandall's Restaurant, 10441 Route 47, Hebron.

Hostesses are Marge Krieter, Joann Altier and Roberta Schachter.

For reservations, call Roberta at (847) 515-8625 prior to Sept. 8. Check for $23.50 should be made payable to Roberta and mailed to 11270 Heatherdale Lane. Carpooling at 3:30 p.m. will be from this address.

Choice of entrée is one-half broasted chicken or broiled filet of halibut. Dinner includes salad, rolls, potato, vegetable, beverage and choice of pie. Indicate choice of entrée when making reservation.

Sun City Concert Band: The Sun City Concert Band will perform at the Fountain View Amphitheatre in Sun City at 4 p.m. Sept. 3.

The band will be joined by the Sun City Prairie Voices; the first time the two groups will perform together. Each group has a program with a diverse selection of music; from "golden oldies" and pop tunes to jazz.

Bring lawn chair or blanket to enjoy a leisurely afternoon on the grass. In case of rain, the concert will move to Drendel Hall. For details, call Donna Bressler at (847) 669-7373.

Gazebo Quilters: The Gazebo Quilters' Guild will resume meeting Sept. 11 at the First Congregational Church of Huntley for the new season. Meeting begins at 9:30 a.m. with socializing at 9 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

The program will be presented by the RPM'S Circle, entitled "Your Favorite Quilting Tips." Anyone who has a favorite quilting tip and would like to share it can e-mail Syl Schubert at genensyl@foxvalley.net, or call her at (847) 961-5029.

Prairie Singers: Deck the Halls! The Prairie Singers of Sun City, Huntley begin rehearsals for their Winter Concert on Sept. 11. They will perform a variety of holiday music, spiced up with dancers and skits. Jump start your Holiday fun at 1 p.m. on Dec. 8 or 4 p.m. on Dec. 9 at the Huntley High School Performing Arts Center. Sun City Genealogy Club: The Sun City Genealogy Club welcomes guest speaker Maureen Brady on Sept. 11. Brady is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and co-director of the Crystal Lake Family History Center. She is a former school librarian and computer educator and has more than 20 years experience with family history research and is now a professional genealogist. Her topic will be "So You Think You Know How to Use a LDS Family History Center."

Sun City Neighborhood 2: John Panella and Charleen Kelly were elected as members to the Neighborhood Council at its Neighborhood 2 meeting on Aug. 15. Forty-three people attended the meeting representing 30 households.

Liz Legenza and Lorraine Galias are coordinating a card party to be held at the Mid America Bank Activity Room at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 19.

Neighborhood 33, Meadow Estates: Neighborhood 33/Meadow Estates will hold its

second quarterly business meeting of the neighborhood from 3 to 5 p.m. Sept. 16 in the multi-purpose room at Prairie Lodge. Election of three neighborhood council members will take place. 33 Flavors Women's Club will have a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Sept. 11 at Govnor's Restaurant, 220 N. Randall Road, Lake in the Hills. Call Maridene Akin at (847) 659-9492 to reserve a spot.

33 Flavors Men's Club will have a breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Sept. 15 at Walleye Grill. Call Chuck Theis at (847) 669-3165 to reserve a spot.

Sun City Golf Club: The final event for the Sun City Golf Club is the golf club championship and dinner dance on Sept. 26 at Whisper Creek. Individual prizes and trophies will be awarded to both men's and women's gross and net score champions and lots of prizes will be awarded through team events taking place. All golfers must be members of the Sun City Golf Club.

Only the first 144 entrants can participate in the golf outing but they can bring a guest for the dinner and dancing portion of the day.

The Sun City Golf Club held its annual elections and all officers were re-elected for another one year term. Officers are: Ed Kelson, president; George Porretta, vice president; Jim Grossman, treasurer; Kay Penn, secretary and membership; Jim Penn, outings and banquets, Chris Sweeney, publicity.

Sun City Red Hatters: What gift did you get that you can't use? What did you buy that you no longer have any use for? What "treasure" would you like to give to someone else?

Well, the Sun City Red Hatters' luncheon on Sept. 18 at Papa "G's" in Elburn is going to give each of us the opportunity to do just that. Here is your chance to sell, trade or give away any RED HAT item that you no longer have any use for.

The picnic luncheon is a buffet consisting of hamburgers, hot dogs, barbecue pork, potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans and a fruit plate; chocolate sundae for dessert and coffee, hot tea and soft drinks. Cash bar at 11:30 a.m. and buffet lunch at noon. Cost is $18. Invitations are in the mail with a form if you need to reserve a table for your wares. Bowl-Hi Mixed League: The Sun City Wednesday Mixed Bowling is accepting bowlers for the 2007-2008 season which begins at 1 p.m. Oct. 1 at Bowl-Hi Lanes, 10520 S. Route 47, Huntley. Neighborhood 11: The men of Neighborhood 11 are invited to men's bocce from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 25 with pizza afterward at the Pavilion. Only 32 spaces are available so sign up and pay early. Sew 'n' Sews: "Sew Forever," this year's picnic by the Fountain Pavilion, will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 10, the second Monday of the month. The picnic is in place of the September meeting. Members planning to attend should sign up to bring a dish to pass that has been kept at proper temperature for serving. Sign up by calling Pat Olson at (847) 659-8217.

Members with last names beginning with A-F are asked to bring an appetizer; G-L a dessert; and M-Z a main dish or salad. Label your dishes and serving utensils. There will be games and door prizes. Soft drinks, diet and regular, as well as water will be provided.

The club offers programs and workshops on a variety of interests to assist members at all skill levels. The sewing room equipment is available for use by members after an orientation provided by the club monitors. Open sewing hours are 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday. Evening hours are available by appointment with a monitor. Annual dues are $12.

The club normally meets at 9 a.m. on the first Monday of the month in Drendel Hall.

Breast Cancer Support Hour: The Sept. 5 meeting of the Breast Cancer Support Hour will be held at 1 p.m. in the Mid-America Bank Meeting Room. R.S.V.P. to hostesses Carole Janninck at (224) 569-3031 or Lorel Kelson at (847) 515-8859 so they can plan.

The group welcomes men and women of Sun City that are newly diagnosed or survivors of breast cancer in a non-clinical, congenial atmosphere, sharing ideas and friendship as part of healing. Dues are $10.

Cancer walk: The fifth annual cancer remembrance Walk, "You're Not Alone" is at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 29 at the Fountain View Pavilion.

Have refreshments and try to be a raffle winner of the body wrap quilt donated by Gazebo Quilters, Project Linus and Head Hugger groups. Listen to music provided by Linda Tischler of Music Education Center of America on the Lowrey Organ.

Registration is currently being taken in the Prairie View Lodge Wellness Center. There also will be registration tables in the fitness area of both Prairie View Lodge and Meadow View Lodge from 8 a.m. to noon on Sept. 6, 7, 10, 11 and 12. This will pre-order T-shirt sizes.

Registration also will be taken on the day of the walk. Advance ordered T-shirts can be picked up at Prairie Lodge from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Sept. 26 or from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27.
