Recess, Pump It Up Fitness made fun: Are your children turning into couch potatoes? Are you looking for an activity they'll actually WANT to do besides play video games?

The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department has teamed up with Pump It Up, the ultimate inflatable play facility in the area. Recess is a supervised, fun-filled hour exercise program disguised as FUN!

Children between the ages of 5 and 11 will stretch, play games, climb on inflatable play structures and get fit without even realizing they're exercising.

The sessions will be held from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 4-25 at Pump It Up, 1095 Pingree Road, Crystal Lake. Fee is $48 for residents and $53 for nonresidents.

Every kid loves a party: The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department invites you to join Ms. Deena on Sept. 7 to celebrate a Teddy Bear Picnic with a related easy-to-make craft, music and a story.

Bring your imagination and be ready for some messy fun.

Class size is limited -- register early. Kids of all ages are welcome; adult participation is required.

Bring a small snack to enjoy at the picnic in the Village Hall Classroom either from 11 a.m. to noon or 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Fee is $10 per parent/child and $7 each additional child for residents and $10 per parent/child and $8 for each addition child for nonresidents.

Wilderness Adventure: Hey, teens, just because summer break is over doesn't mean the fun has to stop.

The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department has one more exciting adventure you don't want to miss This 5-week, co-ed class is held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturdays, Sept. 8 to 29 at Nockels Park. The class will provides you with the skills you'll need to partake in the park district's Wilderness Adventure.

Boy Scouts of America's District Director, Seth Elder, will teach you to navigate a river by canoe as well as some simple survival skills including everything from how to set up a tent to cooking a meal over a campfire.

At the end of the five weeks, the group will head to the Fox River Forest Preserve in Lake Barrington for an overnight canoe/camping trip where you'll apply everything you've learned.

The trip leaves on at 10 a.m. Oct. 5 from Weber's Park in McHenry at and returns at 10 a.m. Oct. 6.

Resident fee for class/trip is $50; nonresident fee is $60.

Mark Miller's Parent & Me programs: It's time for some fall sports. Instead of just watching a game on television or from the sidelines, the Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department encourages you to join in on the fun.

Mark Miller's programs are designed for parents and tots to play sports together. Soccer is offered from 10 to 10:30 a.m.; football is offered from 10:30 to 11 a.m.; multi-sport is offered from 11 to 11:30 a.m. each Saturday, Sept. 8-Oct. 27 at Chesak Elementary School Gym, 10910 Reed Road.

Registration is $78 per parent/child.

For adults

Adult golf clinic: Have you always wanted to learn how to golf? Here's your chance to be taught by a pro.

The Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department has teamed up with Crystal Highlands Golf Center and acquired PGA pro Ben Heydecker to give instruction of the basic principles and fundamentals of golf.

Students ages 18 and older will learn putting, chipping and the full swing using both irons and woods. This class is golfers of all skill levels.

Bring clubs to class. In the event of rain, the program will be extend a week. This clinic runs from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sundays, Sept. 9 to 30.

Resident fee is $60; nonresident fee is $65. A $15 greens fee is due at the beginning of the session.

Crystal Highlands Golf Center is at 8917 Ackman Road, Lake in the Hills.
