Dist. 202 approves deal with teachers
The Lisle school board approved a three-year deal with the district's teachers union Monday night.
The Unit District 202 school board unanimously approved the contract, which includes a 4.9 percent salary increase each year of the contract.
"We've had good relations with our teachers over the years and that helps going into negotiations - no major problems," Superintendent Peter Lueck said.
Negotiations began in November with the Lisle Education Association, which represents nearly 140 teachers. Members ratified the agreement Monday morning.
"They'll keep our salaries competitive to the other districts we compare to throughout DuPage (County)," Lueck said.
He compared the agreement to neighboring districts such as Naperville Unit District 203, Indian Prairie Unit District 204 and Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200.
The deal includes a bonus stipend that reimburses medical expenses to teachers who do not retire early.
Through that, teachers with 15 to 19 years experience will receive up to $2,500 each year for seven years; with 20 to 25 years experience, they'll receive up to $3,000 each year for seven years; and for 25 years or more experience, teachers will receive up to $3,500 for 10 years.
District 202 serves about 1,700 students in one high school, one junior high and two elementary schools.
School begins Wednesday.
"Most days go by and the contract becomes a document filed in a drawer," Lueck said. "As long as we continue (our good relations), it's a background document."
