Birding club plans a trip for Sunday

The DuPage Birding Club will have a field trip at 3 p.m. Sunday to the Lake Calumet area southeast of Chicago.

Targets for the trip are shore birds and unusual wading birds such as Little Blue Heron or Snowy Egret. Interested birders can join club members for dinner at Harborside Golf Course after birding.

Meet in the O'Brien Lock and Dam parking lot, just east of I-94 on the south side of 130th Street in Burnham. Bring your viewing scope.

Sales from exhibit to aid cancer center

Life in Focus: A Photographic Fine Arts Fundraiser, a free exhibit of more than two dozen photographs by 15 College of DuPage photography students, continues from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, through Aug. 23, at Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court, Schaumburg.

Half of the proceeds from photograph sales will be donated to the Life Enrichment Centers at the Cancer Institute of Alexian Brothers Hospital in both Elk Grove Village and Hoffman Estates.

SCARCE to hold its open house

An open house for all K-12 teachers will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at School and Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education's Environmental Sustainability Center, 799 Roosevelt Road, Building 2, Glen Ellyn.

The nonprofit center has resources for all DuPage County teachers at no cost. These include books for a classroom library, classroom sets of textbooks, art supplies, videos, crafts, posters, bookmarks, activity and coloring books, brochures and visuals and hands-on materials to create bulletin boards, classroom libraries and more.

Career workshop to be held in Lisle

Can You Tell the Future? will be an intensive, two-part workshop to explore your interests, skills and to map a path to your future career from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Aug. 28 at WorkNet DuPage Career Center, 2525 Cabot Drive, Suite 302, Lisle. Participants must attend part one of the free workshop to reserve a seat for part two. The workshop is presented by College of DuPage. To register, call (630) 955-2071.

Seminar to focus on retirement plans

Who Gets the Money? will be a workshop about the rules for taking money from IRAs, 401(k)s, and other retirement plans from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday and 10 a.m. to noon Thursday at University of Illinois Extension DuPage, 1100 E. Warrenville Road, Suite 170, Naperville.

Extension educator and Certified Financial Planner Karen Chen will discuss all the rules for three different age groups: 59 and younger, between 59 and 70 and 70 and older.
