Advocate Lutheran General Hospital Bone Marrow Transplant Program Designated Blue Distinction Center for Bone Marrow Transplants

Advocate Lutheran General Hospital's commitment to quality care and the best health outcomes has been recognized by Blue Cross Blue Shield. The Bone Marrow Transplant Program at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital recently was designated a Blue Distinction Center for Bone Marrow Transplant by the insurance provider.

The designation recognizes hospitals with better overall outcomes for patients due to their commitment to quality care. Advocate's program is now one of only six centers in Illinois to be distinguished as a Center of Excellence. This designation signifies that the center is one of the top bone marrow transplant programs in the state. In addition, the Blue Distinction Center recognition allows the Bone Marrow Transplant program at Lutheran General to treat more patients in need of bone marrow transplants due to increased insurance coverage for patients through BCBS.

Blue Distinction Centers are recognized for their proven expertise, high quality care, and patient results. The application process is rigorous and less than 50 health care facilities nationwide are designated as Blue Distinction Centers for Adult Bone Marrow/ Stem Cell transplants.

"This is a tremendous achievement for our Bone Marrow Transplant program and the patients we are privileged to serve," said Dr. Tulio Rodriguez, Director of the Advocate Bone Marrow Transplant program. "We are thrilled to be designated a Center of Excellence and recognized as one of the top programs in the state of Illinois. As a leader in cancer services, delivering exceptional care and better overall outcomes for patients in need is our top priority. I'm grateful to the entire Bone Marrow Team who worked tirelessly to obtain this honor and look forward to continuing to provide the highest quality care to future patients."

Located at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, the Bone Marrow Transplant Program is the only accredited transplant center in the northwest suburbs. Since 1991, a multi-disciplinary team of experts has made the Advocate Bone Marrow Transplant Program a leader in the Chicago area. The research-driven program provides innovative, leading-edge treatment options in a compassionate healing environment to help cancer patients achieve outstanding outcomes that exceed national averages.
