Schaumburg Library Offers Many Ways to Celebrate Halloween

With October just around the corner, the Schaumburg Library has scheduled a variety of Halloween-related programs for various age groups. All of the programs listed below take place at the central library in Schaumburg, 130 S. Roselle Rd. For programs requiring registration or a fee, stop by the Information Desk on the library's second floor, or call 847) 923-3347.

Create Halloween décor with Witch's Legs Ceramics from 6:30-9:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 4, in the Rasmussen South Room. Instructor Randy Skepnek will guide participants in painting a whimsical witch. Registration and a fee of $15 is required.

Spooky Spider Craft, for adults facing social challenges, will take place from 7-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10, in the Rasmussen South Room. Participants will get into the Halloween spirit by creating a creepy jar of glowing spiders. This program is for adults with high-functioning autism or Asperger's, and others facing social challenges, who do not need to be accompanied by a parent or aide. Registration is required.

All ages are invited to Halloween Rock Painting from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 28, in Workshop on the library's first floor. Rocks and paints will be provided. No registration or fee is required.

Film lecturer John Nygro will present Nosferatu: A Silent Dracula, from 7-8:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 30, in the Rasmussen Room. This silent horror film is the 1922 version of Bram Stoker's "Dracula." Revealing background information and film secrets will be shared. Registration is required.

Children up to five-years-old are invited to Halloween Hoopla from 10 a.m. - Noon, Tuesday, Oct. 31. Participating children will start with Halloween activities and crafts in kidsZone, then have more fun with a scavenger hunt and costume parade. Costumes are encouraged. No registration or fee is required.

Many other programs are taking place in October, along with a collection of new, packaged socks for the homeless. A "Socktober" box will be available in the lobby for the sock collection.
