Elgin Kiwanis to host 58th annual barbecue fundraiser Saturday

The Kiwanis Club of Elgin will hold its 58th annual barbecue fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19.

This year's event, which features a barbecue chicken and pork chop dinner, will be held in the parking lot of Advocate Sherman Hospital, 1425 N. Randall Road in Elgin.

Carryout drive-through will be available as well as the popular dine-in tent. Tickets are $15 and include both pork and chicken in addition to sides. Fruit pies from Herb's Bakery in Elgin will be available for purchase.

Tickets are available from club members or available for online purchase, www.elgin.kiwanisone.org. Online sales are accepted until through Friday, Aug. 18.

Same-day tickets will also be available for purchase at the tent.

Proceeds from the barbecue are used to support local charities with priority given to programs that help young children.

The Kiwanis Club of Elgin, now in its 97th year, received its charter March 9, 1920, and serves the Kiwanis International mission, to change the world one child at a time, one community at a time. To date, the Elgin noon club has donated over one million dollars to organizations in Elgin and South Elgin.

Anyone interested in joining the club is invited to attend a weekly lunch meeting, held at noon each Tuesday at The Grumpy Goat Tavern, 875 Sports Way, Elgin, at the Highlands Golf Course.
