Herzing University-Kenosha Adds Nursing Clinical Partners in Northern Illinois

KENOSHA, Wis. (July 24, 2017) - Herzing University announced it is addressing the growing demand for nurses in northern Illinois by expanding its network of clinical partners in the area, providing more local options for students to complete their nursing clinical requirements.

Rolling Hills Manor and The Grove at the Lake, both in Zion, are currently working with the university and Herzing plans to add several more Illinois partners in the next year. Dozens of northern Illinois students attend Herzing to study nursing, mostly from Lake and McHenry counties.

"More than half of our current nursing students are coming from northern Illinois, and we know how important it is to provide them with clinical sites that are close to their homes," said Kenosha Campus President Jeff Hill. "Many of our students are already working full-time jobs and we hope by adding new clinical sites, in addition to offering our new evening BSN program, we will make it more convenient for them to advance their careers."

Aug. 2, the university will unveil its new nursing simulation lab at a Healthcare Education and Employment Symposium that also will feature healthcare employers from northern Illinois and southeastern Wisconsin. At the event, which begins at 5 p.m., current and prospective nursing students can learn about the school's new offerings and regional healthcare employment needs.

The event is open to the public and will feature guest speakers from United Hospital System, which has a clinic in Gurnee, IL; Frontida, Inc.; Kenosha County Division of Health; and Medline Industries, Inc., which is based in Northfield, IL. Regional nursing employers, such as Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Zion, and Aurora Healthcare Inc., which has locations in Gurnee and Zion, also will be onsite to discuss career opportunities with current and potential students.

"We're proud to offer a program that brings together local employers with students from northern Illinois and Wisconsin to help meet the need for qualified nurses in the region," Hill added. "As one of the only direct-admit, no wait list nursing programs in the area, these initiatives are designed to increase educational opportunities for students while enhancing their learning experience."

Also at the symposium, attendees can tour the school's renovated nursing simulation lab. The lab includes high-fidelity patient simulators and is designed to provide students with a safe and realistic environment for hands-on nursing and decision-making practice.

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at Herzing's Kenosha campus offers year-round study, allowing students to graduate in as little as three years. The new evening classes, starting this September, allow students with full-time jobs to attend class during hours that better fit their schedule.

The Kenosha campus is at 4006 Washington Road. For more information, visit the campus during business hours or call 262-671-0675. For more information about Herzing's nursing programs, please visit https://www.herzing.edu/nursing-programs.
