Schaumburg and Pace Unveil New Woodfield Trolleys

The Village of Schaumburg and Pace unveiled the new Woodfield Trolley at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center Hotel on July 19, replacing the current fleet of trolleys that have served riders in the Woodfield area for the past 17 years.

The new trolley fleet consists of buses made by ElDorado Group of Kansas with seating manufactured by Chicago-based Freedman Seating Company. A total of seven new trolleys are replacing the village's current fleet.

"We are excited to introduce our new trolley fleet that will look and feel like nostalgic trolleys, but will offer interior improvements that add capacity and enhance comfort for riders," said Schaumburg Village President Al Larson. "We're pleased to continue our partnership with Pace that allows the village to offer this beneficial transit option for the public."

Schaumburg's Woodfield Trolley is a convenient transportation option for the public to navigate key destinations in the area. The trolley is free and provides service to nine stops with front door service to eight stops including Woodfield Mall, Streets of Woodfield, Woodfield Village Green, IKEA and the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center Hotel. Roosevelt University is a flag stop.

The Woodfield Trolley provides a total of 25,000 rides to patrons annually.

"People have an undeniable affection for trolleys. Not only do they invoke a sense of nostalgia, they encourage people who might not typically consider using public transportation to give it a try," said Pace Chairman Richard Kwasneski. "When we needed to update Schaumburg's fleet, we didn't want to lose those benefits. These new vehicles retain the charm of historic trolleys while adding attractive modern amenities, like Wi-Fi, low-floor ramps for easier accessibility, full security camera systems, and modern GPS and Intelligent Bus System (IBS) technology."

Schaumburg's Woodfield Trolley began service in partnership with Pace Suburban Bus in January 2001, with the current fleet introduced on January 4, 2001. Schaumburg's trolleys received a mid-life rehabilitation after its first six years in service and a life-extending rehabilitation after 12 years in service. Typically, public transportation buses have a service life of 12 years.

The Woodfield Trolley is currently offering daily service through Labor Day and will revert back to its regular Friday through Sunday weekend service schedule after Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 4.
