MacArthur student council collects books for Alexian Brothers

Patients at Alexian Brothers Women and Children's Hospital in Hoffman Estates have 14 boxes of new reading material to enjoy, thanks to the student council at MacArthur International Spanish Academy.

Student council members brainstormed ways to make a difference this spring, and they voted to run a book drive, said Emmi, a student council member.

"We want the kids to be happy," said Alazar, another student council member.

On Feb. 21 each room received a box to collect new and gently used children's books for babies through age 18. The student council hung posters around the school about the drive, and a flyer also went home to families. On March 20 student council members collected the boxes of donated books, which ranged from board books to young adult novels, and brought them back to the library to prepare them for delivery.

Student council member Cristina said the student council also sold St. Patrick's Day decorations to raise money for Feed My Starving Children. They will be volunteering there in April.
